An Enthralling Tale of Survival in I Survived the Wellington Avalanche, 1910!
Title: An Enthralling Tale of Survival in I Survived the Wellington Avalanche, 1910!Rating: ★★★★★I recently had the pleasure of reading "I Survived the Wellington Avalanche, 1910," the 22nd installment in the gripping "I Survived" series by Lauren Tarshis. As a devoted fan of historical fiction, I was captivated by the story's suspenseful plot and its ability to transport me back in time to experience a devastating event that forever changed the lives of so many. The narrative centers around twelve-year-old Owen, a young boy faced with the unimaginable challenge of surviving the catastrophic Wellington avalanche that occurred in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. Tarshis's vivid descriptions and attention to historical detail allowed me to vividly imagine the treacherous conditions and the immense danger that Owen and others faced during this disaster. What I loved most about this book is how Tarshis seamlessly incorporates historical facts into the story, making it educational and engaging for readers of all ages. Through Owen's eyes, we gain a deeper understanding of the avalanche's causes, the perilous aftermath, and the incredible resilience of the survivors. The author's research shines through, making the historical context feel authentic and informative.Owen, the main character, is both relatable and inspiring. As readers, we witness his courage, resourcefulness, and determination to reunite with his family. The emotional depth in Owen's journey tugs at your heartstrings, and you find yourself rooting for him every step of the way.The pacing of the story is perfect, keeping readers on the edge of their seats from beginning to end. The author masterfully builds suspense, making it impossible to put the book down. Each chapter is full of unexpected twists and turns, and I found myself holding my breath during the most intense moments."I Survived the Wellington Avalanche, 1910" is not only an engaging read but also a powerful testament to the strength of the human spirit and our ability to overcome even the most harrowing circumstances. It serves as a reminder of the bravery and resilience exhibited by ordinary people in extraordinary situations. This book is an excellent addition to the "I Survived" series and will undoubtedly captivate young readers, history enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates a well-crafted, action-packed survival story. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an immersive, educational, and emotionally gripping read.

TRUE
I didn’t know this was a 5th grade book but enjoyed it anyway. I’ve read a lot about the Wellington disaster and hiked the old right of way many times so I speak with some knowledge that this book is quite accurate historically. Tho’ the fiction about the young girl is cute and perhaps far fetched, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibilities. Highly recommend this book for anyone interested in this subject even if it’s not really for adults.

Magnificent writing
When Lauren Tarshis spoke at a recent library event here, the line to talk to her afterwards went around the entire interior of the library. Now I understand why. Her ability to weave several themes into a gripping story using a school age vocabulary is truly remarkable. The backstory is inventive. No words are wasted.I don't think I've read a more well written story since Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island.
