When the engine temperature gets above about 190° F, I've noticed performance and fuel economy issues. After a few weeks of running with this sensor, the CEL illuminated with code P054B, or in the case of an N52 engine, this means the eccentric shaft isn't where the DME expects it to be. Using ISTA to re-learn the valvetronic limits eliminates the P054B for a time (an average of about 4 days), where there are still intermittent performance issues (predominantly accelerator hesitation & bad fuel economy). The sensor "works", but it is now destined to be replaced by the more expensive OEM equivalent due to these issues - I have already spent more on gasoline (than expected) than the cost of a new OEM sensor.
