Powerful tool, budget friendly!
Looking at all the different scanners on the market was a bit overwhelming. I read so many reviews and watched so many videos that I had entered the "paralysis by analisys" stage and nearly gave up. But then the D8S really caught my attention. The features that I wanted were there, especially the topographic display, and the price was comfortably within my budget. The quality of this tool seems very good. The display is clear and bright. The interface was easy to learn, mostly intuitive. I've been able to read factory level codes that my other scanners weren't able to view. This lead me to solutions on a couple vehicles that I otherwise would have had to do a lot of trial and error troubleshooting to figure out. Likewise, the extensive live data graphing is very good and has also been instrumental in diagnosing some issues on a couple other vehicles. I've even been able to program extra keys to my own car, saving hundreds of dollars in that alone. Using the kickstand to hang the scanner from the steering wheel is a nice option to have as well. This model is the wired model. And although Bluetooth would probably come in handy, I appreciate that by plugging into the OBD2 port, the scanner can charge itself via the power provided by the port. With that in mind, I haven't had any complaints about the battery life when I'm not plugged in and searching for code definitions, updates, or whatever. AND, it comes with 3 years of updates. I couldn't be happier with this tool!

Best tool for DIY automotive diagnosis & repairs
I bought this tool to track down and solve a PO300 Multiple Misfire code on a 2005 Chevy Silverado I bought recently. Using this tool, I was able to track the misfiring cylinders, O2 sensors, short and long term fuel trims. This saved me a lot of money going to a friend's shop and having him use his scan tool to identify which coil packs needed to be tested and what needed to be replaced. A tool like this will help prevent replacing parts that don't need to be replaced. It tool me 5 minutes to figure out the menus and get to the information I needed to make my repairs. I'm still learning it's functions and features, but so far, it looks like it's one of the best tools I could have purchased for working on later model vehicles, that will save me time and money. It's definitely worth the price, and on par with the more expensive Snap-on counter part of this tool. Well folks, it's a year later, and I'm here to follow up on this review. I've been using this tool for both my car and truck and I've solved a lot of problems and saved myself a ton of money in the process. I've also helped out a few friends and family with their cars and saved them some loot too. This tool has paid for itself over and over again. I've also gotten deeper into it and learned more functions and tests to do on my vehicles that would have cost me $75.00/Hr. at a service center. Recently, I got an error message on power up that couldn't be resolved, so I contacted Xtool Support. They got back to me within 24 hrs. They helped me resolve the issue, and the tool is back to perfect working order. They were very good with their customer support, and they offered me some advice that I'll pass along here to other DIY'ers who may be thinking of buying one of these; First, I hadn't used mine in the past few months, and it was stored in its case in a climate controlled area. I was advised with a tool like this to power it up at least once every 30 days to keep it updated and the firmware current. This is something I suggested they print more prominently in the owners manual for people like me who don't use this every day in a professional environment. It will help prevent software glitches. And, it's a good idea to also recharge it fully when you do this to avoid issues with the battery. It makes sense. Taking the customer support into account with all I've used this for since I bought it, makes this an even better bargain. If you want to do your own work on your OBD II vehicles, and you need a tool that will help you get it done, then I recommend one of these Xtool products. It's the right tool for the job.

Great tool for DIY & shops on a budget, great support, 3 years free software upgrades
### Long Review but worth the time to read ### ### - Summary - Really good tool for DIY & Shops on a budget, great email, phone, and remote screen sharing customer service/support, 3 years free software upgrades ### ### Detailed Review #### If you are a DIY mechanic looking for more than a basic ODBII code reader or have an automotive shop and not looking to break the bank, the XTOOL D8 is a good option and something you should consider. I saw a review for the D7 last year and was really impressed but could not justify the costs at that time. Stumbled across a discount offer (saved 25-30%) on the D8 a few weeks ago that was too good to pass up. There was also 3 years of software updates included (other products in the same space charge upward of $200 per update..yikes) with the purchase! If you have never used a pro level diagnostic tool it can be a little intimidating, but the Xtool screens/displays/menus make it easy to run automatic scans and jump into specific functions based on your needs. Depending on the age of the vehicle and on-board features, you can complete and control all kinds of tests/functions from the D8s menu system. Examples I have 4 different cars ranging from 2002 to 2020. While the computer on the 2002 may not have as many functions as the 2020, with the D8 I have full access to all the available functions/features allowed by each car. The D8 helped me we diagnose/confirm the issue with a door lock on my 2014 was the switch and not the actuator motor. It also helped me monitor the trans fluid temp while performing a transmission fluid service on the sealed transmission in the same car. While there are other ways to monitor the temp, they are less accurate and require additional steps/procedures. Key reprogramming/replacement on newer cars can be expensive. The dealers charges are not cheap, but with the D8 I can complete the replacement key programming & sync process. For use/pre-owned car owners, do you REALLY know that the dealer or seller gave you ALL the keys/phoebes sync with your cars? With the D8 you can complete a process to remove all PREVIOUS keys that were synced with the cars and only re-sync your keys/phoebes you have in hand. While the features of the D8 are important, I believe XTool's customer service/support is what separates them form other competitors with similar products. I have used their email support but have seen they have options for phone/web/remote control support (using TeamViewer on the tool). Even before you buy, you can send them questions via email or Amazon about what the tool does and what features it has. They asked for my VIN #s to provide more accurate information and replies usually came within a day. Even after I bought the D8 and had questions, they were very responsive with replies. I have read review about "similar" products and a common theme with those is that customer support is lacking, and responses are slow or not at all. Having a tool like this may be a luxury for some but in my case its paid for itself in repair diagnosis/cost savings. It even helped while looking for a used car recently. Any car we looked at, I plugged in the D8 and ran a quick scan to check codes. I could even tell if the codes were cleared recently without the emission/smog drive cycle being completed (red flag). Depending on the age of the car, I was also able to quickly jump into running some deeper tests/scans to make sure everything was in working order. Lets just say that there were more than a few cars we walked away from because of the info provided by the D8.
