Great concept but not suitable as a video camera when mounted on bicycle handlebars
The ability of this camera to simultaneously take videos from both the front and rear of the unit and then seamlessly stitch these together, was the main reason for my purchasing the One R. As a regular cyclist, having the ability to record high definition video streams of what's happening both behind and ahead of me on today's busy roads and off-road tracks, is a big plus in the event of an incident or an accident. The Insta360 blurb states that the One R is 'ready for breakneck speeds and strong vibrations'. Sadly, from my experience, the latter statement is not true. Strong vibrations cause merry havoc with the One R which switches from record mode to standby mode at will under anything but the smoothest of road surfaces. Some threads suggest that the use of inappropriate SD cards and the way that these are formatted can be the reason for this. However, I use the recommended micro SD cards and format these through the camera. If the One R makes it to the 30-minute mark, it sometimes continues recording after a brief pause, but most of the time it enters standby mode and stays there, refusing to restart recording. It will eventually start recording again after being shut down and turned back on several times - clearly not a safe thing to do while cycling. If I put the camera on a flat, motionless surface, it will quite happily continue recording past the 30-minute mark and will carry on doing so until the battery dies. The camera is also quite heavy and with overhanging branches etc. when cycling off road, a helmet mount is not ideal. Knowing if the camera is recording or not is also more challenging with a helmet mount. I love the video output that this camera produces and but for the vibration problems and some connectivity issues, I’d have given this a higher rating. For me, the regular and random switching from record mode to standby mode while cycling, makes it virtually unusable for this purpose.

Great Camera - significant issues
First off - I have used the camera for a couple months now and the following is my personal experience of the Insta360 OneR.Good points - using the 360 degree camera in 5.7k mode produces amazing shots giving creators the ability to frame their shots far above normal action camera POV footage. I have ride mountain bikes with my son - I usually go first and he follows. I can shoot my view, look back to him, back to me etc. Really really great view. The stitching is excellent (I have no other reference though) and the brackets, selfie sticks do disappear when the camera does its magic. We did some fake drone fly away shots which looks brilliant - so follow shots with the invisi selfie stick which look superb.Modular design - having the ability to change lenses and use the camera for different modes is brilliant. I have the dual package with the 360 and the 4k lens which is superb, truly multifunctional.Direct manipulation of clips - being able to work with clips directly on my phone from the camera is excellent. Though for exporting videos I export to Devinci Resolve 17 to put the final videos together as the Insta360 software for PC is poor!Poor Points - OVERHEATINGThere is no other way to capture this - the Insta360 OneR will overheat when used in 360 degree 5.7k recording mode in codec H265 in approx. 25 minutes. I have updated the firmware to the latest and I use the exact recommended SD card on the Insta360 website. I typically use the camera to record 4 - 5 minute clips in Scotland - the camera will overheat and shutdown. The operating temperature for the camera is -20 to +40 degrees C - my camera has never been outside of this range. With this limitation - I could not recommend anyone using this camera for the uses I do, mountain biking and horse riding. The main module of the camera gets so hot it is uncomfortable to hold and this is the case for numerous other users. With these constraints to the use of the camera I would not recommend.Other - the Insta360 Studio software for PC is poor but is required to export the videos from the camera to use in other software programmes. Also the iOS software will crash and not export large files - making it difficult to get files off and ready to use.To activate / start the camera only use one device, start with the Apple watch - stop with Apple watch, don't mix the buttons or devices starting and stopping (i.e. buttons / voice / phone / watch).Hopefully firmware updates can improve the heat issue - I understand people are implementing their own heatsinks to the computation module to assist but this should not be required.Good idea - poor implementation.

Let down by software and support
The good;Great modular design.Out of the box waterproof. The camera is easy to use.Good quality pictures and video.Good range of accessories. The bad;Fiddly usb access (for charging) when in its case.Poor software and app, render a video and the audio is 5 seconds out of sync. The app appears (to me at least) to just be a portal to Insta servers and things seem to move around within the app between each use, things can take time to appear as it downloads and it seems a little illogical in its layout (this is, of course, a personal view).PC software vey basic, support for Adobe Premier, if you can afford Adobe fees (not for the casual user).Very poor technical support (expect to wait weeks now or just be ignored) since it moved full over to the app.

Really innovative product with amazing stabilisation in 360 mode.
Really innovative product with amazing stabilisation in 360 mode. I’m a professional cameraman of 20+ years and have used all kinds of camera systems over the years. The 4K mod quality is on a par with GoPro 7/8 but I bought this for the 360 which opens up amazing possibilities albeit a totally different way of filming and storytelling. Footage Looks good in VR on an Oculus Quest too.

Love the modularity, terrible software.
Love the camera, the modularity, the stabilisation but the android app is terrible and so is the windows one. Better 360 quality than my old Samsung 360, better 2D than my old GoPro session or the 'disposable' action cams i put on my drones. I will be getting the one inch sensor mod at some point and probably a Go2 ... i just wish their software was better (on extreme high end workstation so can't forgive it not running on an ancient beige box).
