The metal hooks do go up n down. Thin and clear. Look great to hang twinkle lights.

The instructions said for 0.5 lbs. or less, well, I have had one of this hooks in my office for about 6 years to hang my jacket (about 2 lbs.) behind the door and it is still there.We are also using them for the house, no drilling, no making holes in the walls or doors. It is exactly what we needed!

I bought these to hang measuring cups in the cupboards, and they are wokring great. I had a few left so I tried to hang a cloth map on a wall in the living room. Two of them stayed perfectly and the third one fell off within an hour even before hanging the map. I washed the wall, rubbed with alcohol and tried again. This time the hook stayed until I hung the map, then it fell off peeling paint with it! I have thought about trying one more time in a different spot, but am not sure I want to risk it.

I brought little magnets to put on the back of these little hooks. It works good like that. I'm not sure how they hold up otherwise.

These hooks unfortunately do not work on textured walls. I was so excited to receive these to hang up my fairy lights in my room and i followed all the instructions and woke up to all the hooks on the floor except for one. So unless you have smooth walls i do not recommend. I wish I could return these back but sadly I threw away the packaging already :(
