Q: How do you insert the suet cakes? From top or bottom?

Roof lifts off (still attached to chain)..loads from top.

Q: Does this feeder fit the 2lb seed cake, or only the smaller Suet Cakes?

I have never purchased the 2 lb seed cake, only the 11 oz. variety. The feeder easily holds 3 of the 11 oz. cakes, two together in the middle and the third cut in half and one half placed at each end. Even with this, the cakes are not tight to the wires - there is still wiggling room. I like this feeder because it's durable, easy to fill and clean. It also allows all types of suet eating birds to feed (the squirrel resistant suet feeders often bar access to bigger or rounder birds such as starlings and even blue birds). Hope this helps.

Q: Does this fit the 2.8 x 9.5 x 8 inches ; 1.4 pounds seed cake?

Yes it fits the 8" blocks. I buy the ones from Wal-Mart all the time.

Q: How large are the wire openings? I prefer no larger than 1 1/2 inches. I plan to put mealworms in it for the bluebirds.
