Basically I hadn't slept in 30 years. I can count on one hand the number of good nights sleep in the past. Tried to sleep at night but always had a wired feeling after 6pm. Long story short, it turns out that I had high cortisol levels at night which kept me awake causing insomnia. Phosphatidylserine reduces cortisol levels and has allowed me to actually sleep for the first time in my life! I take 2 capsules three hours before bedtime then two more capsules one hour before bedtime. I also have restless legs at night which is a secondary problem that wakes me up during the night. Stretching helps a lot, but that, along with Thornes magnesium bisglycinate powder gets rid of it. One scoop an hour before bedtime and if I wake during the night I take another scoop. Remember that insomnia is just a "symptom" to an underlying cause. Treating symptoms is futile, more often than not most symptoms are your body's reaction to a root problem. I also do one 3mg. chewable melatonin before bed as well.

I had mixed results with Phosphatidylserine and cannot give it 5 stars. I took it (1 capsule per evening) for one week and wanted to do a longer trial but one side effect stopped me. I noticed that I became slightly agitated and felt a bit depressed after taking it each day (I felt fine several hours later). The 'something is not okay' feeling was off putting. The bottle is stowed away for a while. I will try taking it again in a couple weeks to see if I have the same reaction. I have noticed that my general mood seems lighter, which could be from taking this supplement, but won't know until I try it again.
