Q: what is the clearance on the ramps how high does the lips on the side come up

Top part 11/4" bottom part 11/2" since the top slides into the bottom. These are made for a wheel chair so it won't roll off them if that is your worry.

Actually, I have the 7 foot ramps and not the 5 foot ones. However, the 7 foot ramps reduce down to about 4 feet in length so I'm sure that the 5 foot ramps would reduce down to abvout 3 feet.

Q: Can these be used on a staircase of five steps?

I used them over 3 step outside the house. I would say inside steps would be no different. My question would be the pitch.
