Good quality, does a great job
I bought this to replace a similar Von Haus grass trimmer (pin specific charger broken, company unable to supply separately and not worth the money to replace the whole thing) so decided to upgrade to this Makita one. This is by far and away much better build quality and does a much better job trimming. It's a bit of a faff changing heads as others have said, the instruction pictures are rubbish but once you have the hang of it, easy enough to do although does require loosening screws and flipping the motor so be warned it's not a simple on the go change.Slightly heavy due to the battery at the base but lasts really well. The hedge trimmer does a fantastic job with privet type branches, does struggle a bit more with thicker raspberry cane type branches.Only used once but so far so good and am happy with my purchase.

Value for money, lightweight, fiddly switch between blades
Good tool to have and value for money if you’re already into the Makita family and have the battery. The switchover between blades is very fiddly and a poor design. It cuts grass and hedges well, obviously struggles when you hit an established branch but that’s to be expected.Lightweight even with the battery attached and runs for a long time.Happy with it. Only downside is the swap between blades.

Deceptively effective
I bought this for my postage stamp lawn but so far I've only used the hedge trimmer but that is impressive! I trimmed 20 ft of pine hedge which took me about 20 minutes. I filled a large trugg with clippings and still had 4 bars on the battery. The important points I'd like to make are 1. After use, I advise that you disassemble the hedge trimmer attachment and clean thoroughly and regrease. 2. When swapping between grass and hedge attachments, the cam assembly needs to be turned the other way up - the side with the oval indentation must be showing for the grass attachment and underneath for the hedge attachment. Make sure it is pushed fully home so that the centre spindle protrudes a few millimetres. Also, the blades may need to be jiggled in order to fit around the cam assembly. Typical Makita top quality!Update 17 Oct 2023 - I have used the grass shears and they worked a treat.

Good buy
Easy to use, good quality. Light weight enough for me and my wife.Used for topiary, its easy to get a nice finish, and easy to shape. Can be used right or left handed.Simple change over of the blade, with easy to follow instructions when doing it for the first time.Would recommend this item.

Nice compact trimmer, switch out option to/shears needs some patience
Decided to buy this for light trimming using just one hand due to recent shoulder op, plus I already own other Makita tools using the same batteries. Including the battery it comes in at over 2kg (5lb) so not ultra lightweight. AS I don't need the (fitted from new) shears head I swapped out to the trimmer head supplied. I provided some pix as the manual is about average for all new products. The swap out is straight forward as long as a. you turn the removable cam plate over, b. you turn the motor pin plate 90 degrees (across the main body of the machine), c. you make sure that the trimmer drive plate is fully in place before tightening the 2 screws. Even when you do all of that the cover plate is still a complete faff to refit - must work harder on a more sensible design Makita. Good value for the cost
