An easier way to protect bulbs and perennials
I’m an avid gardener and I have a running battle every year with squirrels, chipmunks and voles. For years I buried half-inch hardware cloth cylinders to protect vulnerable perennials and bulbs but it was a LOT of work. These baskets are much easier to use because they are smaller and more pliable than my homemade version so you can shape them to fit whatever you’re planting. To use them, dig an appropriately-sized hole and partially fill the basket with soil before putting in the plant/bulbs - then finish filling the basket and plant it. The only issue I’ve had is that perennial roots don’t seem to grow through the mesh sides of the basket, so when I transplant something with a lot of roots (like a hosta) I pull the main roots through the mesh before I plant the basket - even if the rodents eat some of the roots, they won’t destroy the crown.

I don't use these to protect roots...
So take my review as you will. I unroll these a little and plop them over seedlings in my garden to keep cabbage moths from alighting on them and slugs from eating them alive. Works like a charm! They're big enough to keep on the plants until they're about 6" tall, so they get pest protection for a good portion of their early lives. Also, while the "cages" are on the plants, I get to sing to myself every time I go out to the garden "despite all my rage, I am still just a plant in a cage!" :) Laugh all you want, it works!

gopher nets
Well, I use gopher nets all the time but decided to try this brand because they show there is a metal ring for easier use. Gopher nets delivered to me do not have the metal ring shown in their pics. So I am disappointed. They were more epensive than the other brand too. Are they gopher nets I can use, yes but not what is stated in their advertisement.

Very well designed
I like the way the bottom of the bas is constructed. Gathered together with a sturdy ring. Much better than stitching the bottom of the bag. Also the roll up makes it easy to place your plants in the bags before you go over to where you are going to plant them. Saves on knees and back. I have been using gopher bags for quite awhile and they really work for me.

not sure what these are designed to keep out, but even an arthritic mouse could chew its way through
Definitely NOT gopher proof (had tried a few times and no evidence of even slowing one down). Admittedly we have large and numerous gophers here in the high California desert... they seem to LIKE metal. Hardware cloth works but can't seem to find gopher baskets made out of that. Have lost hundreds of plants (some very large, some small) to gophers.. little seems to thwart them... these certainly do not.
