Q: What type of hook does it need to hang on?

I believe it just had a hole on the back for a nail. I supposed you could hang it on other types of hooks, but it hung just fine on a nail.

Q: Is this really made of wood? I purchased a frame from the same company two years ago that said it was wood, but it was actually plastic.

Technically, yes. It is compressed saw dust material, not solid wood. It has actually got some weight to it.

Q: What is the difference between assembly black and black?

It’s all black. Just plain black.

Q: Is the backing one large piece or does it have separate bits for each picture?

Backing is one large piece but had tightening lnobs at various places.
