The media could not be loaded. I have been wanting to get whiskey stones for quite some time. I enjoy sipping scotch or bourbon and sometimes I want my drink a little chilled. When I use ice, it melts too quick ruining my drink. So, I though that whiskey stones would be a great alternative. I thought wrong. I tried two different times to get my drink to chill. The first time with actual whiskey (crown) and the second time with just water. The first time I placed the stones in the freezer for 5 hours before using. The second time I placed them in the freezer for 12 hours. In both cases, I used an frothing thermometer to test the temperature drop. In both cases I also placed the stones in my deep freezer which is set to -5 degrees.On the first attempt, with real whiskey, I had to use all 8 stones to get the temperature to drop from 80 degrees to 77 degrees. It never dropped any lower. So I figured maybe it was because the stones didn't sit in the freezer long enough. So back they went for 12 hours.On the second attempt, with plain water, I noticed a 5 degree drop with 3 stones, but then after adding the remaining 5 stones, the temperature dropped no further. In fact, it actually slightly started rising (as can be seen in the video.)After removing the stones from the glass, I noticed they did not feel very cold to the touch. It seems the water removed the chill out of the stones in less than a minute. It was a total reverse effect. The description says "works best with 2 inches of liquid" which is about what I had in my glass.I'm not sure if "chilled" means "5 degrees less than the beverage's bottle temperature" but if so, I see no point in using the stones at all.On the bright side, these stones came with a really nice case and velvet carrying case. The tongs barely grip the stones and you can forget using them with ice.

These stones are a great gift for a housewarming, wedding shower or gift. The box is a collectible.
