this perfume is an absolute gem--you will be wondering where it has been your whole life!
absolutely amazing! this was a blind buy based off several reviews of vintage scents from the era of chanel #5. oh my gosh--i cannot express how lovely this is. while it is not a "dupe" of chanel no 5, it was coty's answer to chanel no 5 back in the day. but its like a softer, mellower, more powdery version. like no. 5 with all harshness removed. i cannot belief you can get such a classy scent for such a reasonable amount. its such an amazing value! if you love vintage scents like chanel no 5, shalimar, l'air du temps even,,,you will love this and wonder where it has been all your life. not to mention the art deco bottle is a work of art! i treat my perfumes with kidd gloves and usually keep them boxed--but this bottle with be featured prominently on my dresser on a silver tray. just gorgeous to look at!

A wonderful classic from Coty ca. 1927
Rumor has it that both Chanel (#5) & Coty had the same fragrance note list for these two fragrances due to using a chemist that left Coty to work for Chanel. In 1927 Coty had another chemist tweek the notes and released L’Aimant. It’s so similar if you compare the scent profiles for both (and much more affordable!). L'Aimant by Coty is a Floral Aldehyde fragrance for women. L'Aimant was launched in 1927.Top notes are Aldehydes, Neroli, Peach and Bergamot;middle notes are Ylang-Ylang, Rose, Jasmine, Geranium and Orchid;base notes are Musk, Sandalwood, Vanille, Tonka Bean, Vetiver and Virginia Cedar.L’Aimant is a lovely aldehydic forward fragrance. It’s becoming harder to come by so if you’re into old fashioned fragrances, (Chanel #5, Shalimar, White Shoulders etc), be sure to add this to your collection. The bottle is a lovely Art-Deco designed glass reminiscent of the art, decor & fragrance from that era. A great price!

On My 3rd Bottle
This is one of the best budget friendly, long lasting, classic perfumes I’ve ever tried. While it’s not a “dupe,” it definitely reminds me of Chanel No. 05, and it wears incredibly well for the price. It lasts 6-8 hours when sprayed on clothing, and it doesn’t stain/discolor like some other yellow floral perfumes.

Doesn't smell anything like Chanel Nº 5
Full disclosure, I bought this primarily for the bottle not the scent. It's a good thing too, because it smells nothing like Chanel Nº 5. As you can see from the photos, I own the real thing and was able to make an immediate comparison. The scent of this reminds me more of white shoulders than chanel. It definitely smells like something my grandmother would use. Given the price however, I'm perfectly happy to have it simply as a decoration. The bottle has a clean, classic art deco design which I'm happy to display.

Great scent!
Nice old familiar scent. Good memories. Wore it in the late 60s.

Big disappointment
This NOT the L'aimant I remember. Now made in Spain, apparently the Spaniards lost something in the translation of the formula. When first sprayed on, it smells like wasp killer, then within 10 minutes or so fades to a slightly pleasant, though unidentifiable fragrance, and within 20 minutes is completely faded away. Thank God! Guess I'll go back to Emeraude. It's not the same as the old one either, but at least it smells nice and lasts.

Just needs time to "age"
This is supposed to be "Floral, Powdery, Woody, Sweet & Creamy." I get a little of each but nothing stands out & it's as if all the notes are muddled together. It's not unpleasant; it just doesn't come together. If I had to choose one note that tries to rise up, it would be the powder & not in a little old lady way. That's what makes this nice enough not to regret buying it.I can tell that this WILL get better if I let it sit for a few weeks (months?). This is one of those drugstore scents that work well for layering or (if you are patient) for smelling way more expensive than it is. (Look at how Emeraude - which is a sub for Shalimar - is suddenly so popular.)This is nice for the office or other places where you don't want to assault others with your fragrance.
