Key-BAK Mini-BAK Retractable Badge Holder with 36" Nylon Cord, Steel Belt Clip

An accessory like this is what I needed for my keys. Yes, you hear that right, I use them to hold my keys. I know that they weren't made for that, but they have held up pretty good for the 5 months since I bought them. This means that they were used in harsher conditions than they were meant to. Actually, I'm quite surprised since the cord is thin and it's able to hold the weight of my whole keychain setup when I take it out of my pocket. What this tells me is that this is a high-quality product. It's pretty clear that holding a card or badge would be like nothing for this thing. The plastic seems ok. It hasn't cracked nor has shown signs of damaged from constant use. I really like its small size. It's small enough to blend in with my belt although it does stick a little due to its thickness. The holder is completely black except for the back which is of transparent plastic. I have mixed feelings about that, on one hand, it allows you to see the mechanism inside moving. But, a part of me would prefer something completely blacked out. At the end of the day, it's a matter of preference. The length is long enough for my purposes, more than I would have liked actually. I have to cut it a little shorter so I could reach my keys if they happen to be hanging from the holder when I take them out. As you can already tell, the retractable spring is not strong enough to hold everything I carry on my keychain. However, I won't criticize them because I knew that they were not made to carry all of that. Nevertheless, I hope they release a similar version with the same, small size but with thicker cable and stronger retractable mechanism for those who want to attach their keys. However, not everything is rainbows and unicorns. I have already noticed some degradation in the cord over time due to the treatment it has received. There are tiny threads that have come off because of friction, but you can barely see them. Yet they do not seem to be failing in the long term. I have to order one after seeing its sturdiness. At the back it says "Made in USA". So I assume the company has good quality controls. All in all, I can say that I do recommend this product. Finally, see the pictures I attached to know its measurements. I know its hard to know its dimensions when you just look at them through a screen.

I've used these for many years now at work. I badge in and out of computer terminals 75+ times a day and find these last 2-3 years before starting to have difficulty retracting. I've never had one break. They are light weight so I can clip it on my shirt pocket without any sagging and they extend arm's length.

I work in a building that requires a lot of badging into certain areas and I like to wear my key card on my belt. I got so sick of the reels breaking on the cheap ones my work provided that I just bought my own. This thing was awesome. It’s nice and compact. Lasted me almost a year and a half, but the reel never broke! The plastic that clips onto the card eventually split. For me it was worth the money. Just bought another one.

The reel works pretty well and has held up to rough hospital badge use for over 2 years but don't be fooled by the lifetime warranty. They require you to ship the old one back on your dime then pay a $4 service fee. After all that it would be cheaper just to buy a new one of these. The warranty might be worth it on the more expensive models but on these cheapies don't factor the warranty into decision making.

I’ve used this product for years. Great non-flashy badge clip. Does it’s job and for the money, you really can’t beat it. Mine wore out in about 24 months with continuous daily use. Easily replaced though and very cost effective. Would recommend.

Most badge holders are so cheap and useless, they fall apart super quickly, or the cord starts sagging and stops fully retracting. This badge is nothing like that. I use my badge constantly on shifts and have never had an issue. The clip is strong and reliable, so I never have to worry about my badge falling off. I accidentally ran over the badge holder with my car. The metal clip was crushed, but the plastic reel survived with barely a scratch. Will recommend and buy again.

UPDATE: I've used this every work day for four years and it is still going strong. No sign of wearing out or breaking! Great deal! I was in search of a badge reel that was of higher construction quality than the typical ones I pick up at office depot. After a bit of researching, I settled on this reel by key-bak. It really does seem to be a superior badge reel. The size is the same as a typical badge reel (small) but it has a precision feel when you extend and retract the line. Time will tell how it holds up, but the nylon cord seems sturdier than others that I've used. It has an alligator-style clip that rotates freely so this is easy to securely attach/detach to just about anything. Definitely a winner.

I had this exact item for nearly 5 years, it recently broke. Understandable after heavy use for so long. Great item. However, I just reordered not even three months ago and the new one broke today. I noticed the string didn’t seem to be as sturdy but hoped it would last at least a year. Too expensive to last less than three months.

Es handelt sie bei diesem Key Bak um das Original. Es werden einige schlechte Kopien angeboten, die aufgrund ihres niedrigen Preises jemanden schnell in die Falle tappen lassen. Der Preis für das kleine Key Bak ist der übliche Handelspreis, grosse Differenzen zw. USA und GER waren in diesem Fall nicht vorhanden.

Does what it does and it does it good

Nice and tiny keyback with black nylon (!) cord. Looks fragile, but works OK. I loaded it with quite heavy 3 cards holder - and it keeps it perfectly.
