‘The world needs you to be a critical thinker’ – Learning strategic planning
California author Kris Safarova earned her degrees in classical piano, communications, and business administration, and is the founder and CEO of FIRMSconsulting.com and StrategyTrining.com – the world’s largest strategy streaming channel! She shares her expertise in her seven Strategy Journals, of which this is the initial publication. The purpose of this book – ‘a journal for those who want to do the work, for those who want to solve complex problems, ask the right questions, collect the right data, conduct right analyses, communicate the right findings, influence colleges to act, and know what needs to be done at each stage of the study to produce a truly unique solution that solves the original problem.’Kris’s writing style is straightforward, actionable advice that leads to developing strategies for resolving problems confronting businesses, presented in a format akin to her online consulting technique for problem solving. The book is a fine resource for both beginning business and advanced CEOs. Grady Harp, June 22

interesting concept for first-time consultants
The Strategy Journal is an interesting compilation of tips on how best to approach and analyse a problem. The journal is broken up into 3 primary sections—the process, an example, templates and lists to help you create and complete your own study. As someone who is very familiar with Organizational Leadership and many of the principles and various approaches to OL, I’d say this is one more tool/option available. Especially for first-time consultants, the various charts and templates are a great way to help you focus your own thoughts. I will say that I thought the paper copy was on the pricey side, but I found the ebook to be just as useful and I could navigate around well enough when comparing their charts to my current project.

Mandatory Reading
The Strategy Journal is a highly perceptive book that analyzes intriguing questions about strategies in business. The book outlines an ambitious objective and redefines how a consultant should construct a strategic plan.Kris Safarova begins with a broad definition of strategy and concludes it “as choosing the right business objective and the steps to achieve that business objective.” Safarova broadens that definition by outlining the steps and planning involved in creating well defined strategy. There is a hands-on guide to creating a strategic plan by following the storyboard to convert the hypothesis into a workable analysis. This book seems to be a guide, and following the steps outlined, a strategic consultant can improve the profitability of their company, understand market structure, customers, competitors, culture, investments by answering questions posed within the book. If implemented correctly, this guide can serve as a successful tool to testing a hypothesis and should be mandatory reading for market research novices. It’s a welcome addition to reference libraries and those responsible for making complex, strategic decisions to get the desired result.“This approach naturally creates an implementation road map, accelerates implementation, and makes implementation easier.”The inclusion of a dedicated area for notes, prompts readers to purchase the printed version of this e-book and I highly recommend readers add the physical copy to their shelves. The templates provided are invaluable and The Strategy Journal is composed at a high savvy level. Accordingly, it is suitable for strategists, academicians, and understudies, yet not too advanced for the average reader.

A Consultant's Best Friend
I want to start off by saying I wish firm's trained you with the material that is in this book. The training we get (Big 4) is not even as close to what I read in the Strategy Journal. This is a step by step guide that takes you from start to finish.I have never had to run a study before but if I did I would use this journal as my guide for how to run it. The journal is a soup to nuts guide that gives you the best actionable plan I have ever seen broken down into an 8 week detailed study. For example, everything starts with defining the right problem statement. If you don't correctly identify the right problem statement you might do the the right analysis on the wrong thing. From there you will learn how to create decision trees, to hypothesis to financial analysis. In the journal it states you do not need an MBA to conduct this type of financial analysis and extract "Quick Wins" for your client. As someone who went to a top MBA program I can attest that I agree. In fact, I never learned any of these planning skills in my MBA program either. Furthermore I like this method more than what I learned in taking certifications courses for project management. The type of structuring presented here for the study is very practical and useful.I wholeheartedly recommend this not only to consultants buy any project manager in any industry.

Good information but very basic
The Strategy Journal: Learn the skills used by the leading management consulting firms by Safarova Kristina is a book that is meant to help consultants and others working in the world of business come up with plans and strategies to help solve problems that their businesses will have to deal with. The book contains strategy pages which can be filled in to help come up with a plan, and also plenty of suggestions as far as next steps for what can be done based on the results. All of this is good, but i felt like it was a bit watered down which made the read feel wordy and dry. Shortening this down and getting right to the point, which is what the reader is going to want, would do a lot to solve this. I also think this was meant to be for workers who were new to the field or the position because much of what is here feels very formulaic rather than open to interpretation and innovation.

Having FC training at your fingertips!
This book is an excellent resource, and something that can be used on a daily basis. It's a bit of a different take from their previous books, but provides a very practical overview and example of the application of the critical thinking, storytelling, analysis and strategy development process. The guided example is engaging and direct, something that many books, let alone even corporate training struggles to achieve. What the strategy journal allows readers and users to do is to adapt the methods and process to their own type of work, whether in consulting or an industry position. Furthermore being able to flip back and forth between the guided example and templates/tools will be truly valuable moving forwards.

Good idea to create buy-in
The Journal offers practical tools to manage strategy projects. Taken all together, these tools can represent a project management methodology. The parts I find the most interesting are the sections about customers update, especially how they are used to sell further projects.
