The maddening bells and whistles replaces basic features problem.
Insert a big face palm. Pure Guardian is one of the most consistently good companies for humidifiers and purifiers. I have been searching for a smaller humidifier than the one I've been using, at this point, simply because it's the only one that consistently works, but it's frustrating to clean and is big. The one I'm using by default is a Pure Guardian, it's the bigger model than this one, more of a horizontal-design. I bought this one after checking out the pictures, even watched a video showing it working. First thing I have to know what is the speaker-looking part on the front? I kept waiting on it to talk to me. And just to show it's nothing negative towards Pure Guardian, I have the big Pure Guardian humidifier which has outlasted every humidifier I've tried in the last 3 years and a Pure Guardian purifier that I bought to replace a Honeywell Air Genius 5 purifier. I'm 100% satisfied with those two Pure Guardian products, but...Where is the handle on the tank? Really, on the bottom? I have had 4 different models of Pure Guardian humidifiers and all have a recessed handle on the tank. I assumed this one did. I just looked at it. Sitting there in the floor, knowing that would annoy me since the tank is too big to fit in the sink and our tub would require me to step into it to fill a tank with. I went ahead and filled it. The nozzle cap isn't like the previous Pure Guardian humidifiers? My big, horizontal one has two spouts, I usually turn both towards me. This one has a little outward projection of mist, but it has two spouts that aren't movable. What I mean by movable, the piece rotates, but you're going to have one spraying out to the right, one to the left or one to the front, one to the back. I only want the mist on me, not on the dog! Woke up and our little dog keep looking up like, "What the?" He sleeps near the bed and wasn't amused by this sneak-attack bath.I don't like the programming. I turn my humidifier on when I go to bed, turn it off when I wake up. The bells and whistles have, in my opinion, cheapened the overall product. It's like when your wife insists on buying the gas grill with the replaceable middle grate so you can cook vegetables on it without a worry of them falling through. Then you look at it closely, after purchasing, and realize they "gave" you those bonuses for the same price, but forgot to mention they replaced the front metal gas container door with a rubber one that warps when grilling and flies off, injuring the little dog. I'm serious here, this cheapening by removing basic features to add bells and whistles that no one will really use is dangerous to little dogs and to relationships. Imagine my wife saying, "Think of all the grilled corn we can have." Corn is on a cob, you don't need a flat piece to keep it from falling through!Sorry about the distraction there, but it's how I feel about this humidifier. I have no doubt that Pure Guardian is a good company and are probably a bit caught off guard by how many people are buying humidifiers these days. They're trying to keep up with new innovations and designs, it happens, and shouldn't change opinions about the company. This just happens to be a product that I don't like using and can see that I paid for things that mean nothing to me, but lost features I like. For the review purpose, my 70 year old mom also uses the humidifier, we have opposite shifts and I can't expect her to lug this tank without a handle. Think of my poor little dog walking beside of her wanting a treat and wanting to jump on her legs as she walks to make sure she sees him. It does a decent job of raising the humidity, but it's fairly hard to clean and it's developing stinky tank. I'm still in the return window and will get my money back on it.

Does the job
We liked the first one so we bought this second one for the second floor. Both are working fine. 100% better than the antique that we used to use. We bought the optional filter for it since our tap water here is full of stuff. Considering my physical condition, we maybe should have considered getting one that filled from the top but I have been managing OK with this one. I rest the tank in the sink to fill it and it's not all that heavy to lift it and set it back on the base. The mist that comes out is cool so I can leave it right out on the table where I want it without worrying about the cats burning themselves. It's very stable so they can't knock it off the table or open it to spill the water.

Pros and cons... not for those that like to sleep in dark
Pro's - puts out more vapor - as soon as it is turned on - than any unit we have ever had. Easy to fill, large tank, lots of settings if you are looking for one that you can set the humidity percentage in the space. SUPER quiet.Any unit is going to need to be cleaned, no matter what the marketing says about special coatings, etc. - this one is easy to clean.CONS - the LIGHT - it has two one that lights up water reservoir, that you can turn off which is great... THE OTHER is the annoyingly bright control panel light... which I have NOT found a way to turn off. Difficult to cover the light.... URG. If you need a bright night light this is it.Would be five stars if that would shut off and be dark or at least very dim.

Glad I purchased this
Bought two and use them in the family room and bedroom. Finding that I sleep better with these running. They run at 40% on up to 75% with one gallon of DISTILLED water it runs about 10 hours. When filled to the top it runs about 14 hours. Have yet to have these units run for 100 hours, maybe it's because the rooms are bigger than 250 square feet.

quality product but slightly noisy
used pureguardian products for several years. bought this one when my previous one stopped working. it is noisier than previous one. even if you turn the night light off, the humidity setting stays lit. Also, prefer the tank handle on the top rather than on the bottom. not useful on the bottom.

Good in the right conditions
If you've got soft or low-mineral water, this is a nice choice (I didn't see any issues with the design or function). If, like me, you have hard water (and not enough space to store distilled water - or the desire to keep buying it), I'd avoid it; mine's going up for sale, because even with the demineralizer cartridge - which did help some - I still ended up with white dust, and that stuff can get everywhere. So I'm now using a combination of Venta (yep, pricey - but actually the cleanest option available, and possibly the longest warranty) and a trusty vaporizer (no white dust there, either). I hope this helps.

great product
product is easy to use and works very well, I am not sure of the accuracy of the humidity gauge, I will get an external one to place next to my guitars to compare. But it certainly kept my room nice and comfortable this past very cold and dry winter

Has Problems
This product gives off a fine mist that is great for humidifying a room however it has some issues. 1st, If it is run in auto mode the night light cannot be turned off and it is distracting if you're used to sleeping in a dark room. 2nd, In manual mode it does not always correctly regulate the humidity according to your setting. I have mine set at 40% and some times the humidity in my room will reach 60%.Tip; Use distilled water. It runs a lot cleaner.
