If there is a such thing as a "masterpiece" for wine stopper sets, this may be it. We stumbled upon the oak burl dangling over a creek in Fork Union, Virginia, where it had aged at least five years. The results are simply magnificent. Rarely have we found such exquisite wood to work with-- and since we harvested it locally, ourselves, we don't have to pass along the outrageous cost most woodworkers charge for buying material as precious as this. And the bonus to this natural edge piece: the hole on the side is from a small black boring beetle who expired while inside the wood. Yep, there are actually tiny pieces of its shell embedded in the top of the stopper, which we preserved as best we could with natural finishes. This is a one-in-million (billion?) item, which we will gladly keep for our personal collection if it does not sell online. We offer it for a very brief time, at a very low price in the hopes that it will find a home that appreciates true natural art. This stopper set was sealed with walnut oil, then finished with a walnut oil/beeswax blend. It may need require minimal re-oiling but due to the hardness of the burl wood will last for years with virtually no maintenance.
