Better than janome hd 3000.
I tested this machine with the ultimate test. I made one of my denim handbags that's even lined with denim. The machine completed the project without any problems. I've discovered that this machine has a more powerful motor than the jamone hd3000. This machine has a .7 amp. The janome hd 300 only had .5 amps. I've sold the jamone at my yard sale because it was a total mess. I'll be keeping this singer. Instructions books can be purchased on eBay.

The perfect machine for me at a bargain price.
I had to search for some time, but finally found the perfect sewing machine for my uses. It has a huge variety of stitches, and unlike some of the other HD machines from Singer, has self threading, one step button. All of the niceities of a modern machine. Solid construction, high speed stitching that will easily make it through almost anything you can throw at it.To ice the cake, it even has one font of characters. All of this for a great price. Who does lifetime warrantees anymore? Singer.

Upgraded from my mid century Viking...
I'm not a huge fan of the plastic pieces. I wish that was a bit higher quality. But for the price, this is amazing. I love the quickness of being able to switch stitches. Oh! And the automatic needle threader is a vision saver!I recommend this for the price. The cheap parts are the reason I won't be getting rid of my Viking though. I don't have high hopes that my grandkids will inherit this machine.

Very good for the price
When my old-time Singer was no longer repairable, the new Singers had such a bad reputation that I didn't think I would ever buy another. After several years of using a high-end and very pricy quilting machine, I couldn't put up with the constantly annoying design flaws any more. I wanted a more basic machine to do the majority of quilt piecing and for making clothing. I did a lot of research before buying this Singer, and it paid off. This machine has sewn flawlessly on a variety of fabrics, from silky, stretchy, quilting cotton, and heavy flannel. It is easy to thread and make bobbins. I wish the throat was a bit bigger, but I will be using my quilting machine for larger projects, so I can live with it. The only gripe I really have is that the lever to lift the foot is on the right instead of the rear, so it almost forces you to use your right hand to raise the foot. I've been using my left hand on rear levers for nearly 60 years, so that's a hard habit to break. I would definitely recommend this model as a solid beginner or mid-level machine.

I love singer machines
Took me a few to figure out, thing worst problem was it came with no instructions manual, after I printed out the instructions manual from someplace, I was off to the races, easy to thread, and easy to use, I’ve owned singers since the 1970’s and I’ve had a few other brands I always head back to the singer. Just wish it had an auto cut for the price paid. But after other reviews this was the best. So went with my love of singers.

Singer sucks
Everything about this machine is not great. On top of that it doesn't hold tension. The "embroidery" stitches it does are useless. It claims heavy duty but struggles with every fabric I put through it. And it just randomly burnt out. I've had trouble with this machine from the beginning all the way to the end. For the price I would just save up a little more cash and buy a different brand entirely.
