WONDERFUL GIFT!
I got this for my sibling for their 39th birthday. We are both in our 30s, both with some technical/engineering backgrounds, and both softies for cute things. This kit delivers on all fronts! The directions are incredibly clear, informative, and adorable! The kit itself is easy to navigate, had all the components plus extras, and seemed very well-made. The process of making the instrument was easy to follow, included milestones where we would test it to ensure it was working, and was fun! It took about 20 minutes to build, but could be done faster if you're reading from the initial diagrams. It works! If I were to have any qualms about it, it is that the range where the pitches change is relatively small - but that is to be expected for an instrument of this size. You can fit 2 octaves in about 4 inches on a violin and it is no different here, it just requires more practice and attention to detail if you're planning on playing any specific melodies. As far as a sound-effects device though, it is *very* fun, very sci-fi, and quite expressive! It is also fairly loud, the volume control antenna works well, and it is just a blast to experiment with!We had a great time with Micro and Tick and highly recommend this to nerds, geeks, and everyone else looking to have a bit of noisy fun!Great job, Dave!

Great educational kit and a fun musical instrument
This is a high quality, well put together kit. My 10 year old granddaughter, with no previous electrical experience now understands how to use a breadboard, what transistors, integrated circuits, resistors, light emitting diodes, and capacitors look like, and knows how to read the color code on a resistor. The wires are all stripped and bent to the correct size so the focus stays on understanding the concepts rather than losing interest struggling with the mechanical connections. And the instruction booklet is laid out well, from the accurate pictures of each component, the overview of the project broken into 4 stages with a diagram of each completed stage, to the bits of theory on each page of the excellent instructions and pictures. The circuit tests at the end of each stage gave a confidence and desire to move to the next step. And the Theremin worked as advertised. Everybody had to try it. In case you can't tell, I was impressed with this kit. I immediately wanted to see what other kits this outfit produces.

A Little Musical Delight
The MicroKit Theremin is a miniature delight. Being older (65+), I had a slight disadvantage in assembling the musical instrument; but for the younger people they will have no problem putting this together. Easy-to-follow instructions; I like the multiple step process which checks your work to make sure you're on the right track. I've listened to various Theremin players on CDs and while you won't be able to come close to their performances, it gives you insight on how the instrument works. For those more interested, you can purchase various versions online. Being able to create my own Theremin was a joy and I can "compose" at my own leisure. I hope the company releases many more MicroKits.

Quick and easy! Long lasting fun.
The media could not be loaded. I bought this as a stocking stuffer for my son (12). We put together the device yesterday afternoon. It was a lot of fun! The directions were easy to follow and very detailed. It explains what is used and why in a way that can be easily understood. There are a couple extra parts included just in case you bend a wire out of shape or lose one. The kit also includes directions if you're missing a piece or lose/break one for a free replacement if needed. The kit also includes 3 AA batteries and the beloved On/Off switch on the battery pack.My advice would be to take your time if working with a child. My tween and I put together this kit but I feel like he could have easily done it by himself following the directions included. I'd say it took less than 15 minutes to put together, testing along the way per the kit directions. We've both spent sometime playing with the finished product. Even the cat involved herself with a briefly misplaced tail.My kiddo and I highly suggest this kit for geeky tweens/teens/adults and technology/music curious younger kiddos with adult supervision and support. The kit is safe for small children with guidance and an understanding to NOT unplug things or move them on the board. I would not let a younger child use/handle the finished product without supervision. Lots of tiny parts that could be damaged or lost.Warning: It is fairly loud and DOES take some time to figure out proper hand movements! Be prepared to make some noise! : )

Wish I had these kits when I was a kid
This kit was easy to put together and worth the money. I bought this because my Wife wanted a mini theremin, and I figured this would a fun use of 15 minutes. As someone who is an EE and has been in the industry for 20+ years, I can say that the instructions were very easy to understand, all the parts were included and the step by step explanation with pictures was easy to follow. I especially liked the details on what each component is/does and how it interacts within an electronic circuit. If only they had stuff like this more readily available when I was a kid in the 80s, my parents would have replaced fewer VCRs lol. This is a fun buy and the sound is great for the package. Worth the money if not only just for the educational value it provides. Start em young!

Fun to put together
Pretty disappointed in how it work, mostly just an interesting project with little satisfaction at the end

Easy and educational -- couldn't find anything close for the price
Kind of rinky-dink, more of a toy than a musical instrument, BUT it's a good deal for what it is. The wires are not only pre-cut and stripped, but the tips are bent exactly 90 degrees at just the right length. It explains some of the electronics involved, has a schematic at the end, and it does demonstrate how a theremin works. It might actually make a good amateur-level instrument with some tweaking -- maybe another amp circuit and a better speaker, maybe replace the antennae with wires to larger antennae. This is a good way to start if you're interested in electronics, electronic music, or the theremin in particular. Also good if you just like to put together kits that actually do something.
