Are these room darkening or black out? These are 2 completely incompatible terms? The title incorrectly uses both terms to describe these curtains.

Room darkening, I can def see brightness when the sun comes up in the morning, and tiny pinholes of light at night (there is a street light near me, not super noticeable). Also, I'm thinking the lighter color curtains may let more brightness through, I bought the royal blue panels, and I'm quite happy with how dark my room is for sleeping, also note I do not have blinds or shades behind these panels, which may help to filter light out even more. Hope this helps, I love how easy these are to hang and the grommets slide across the bar smoothly.

My windows are 38W x 52L inches What size curtains should I order?

That would be your personal preference, I would order 52x63, Have big dogs so don’t want my curtains hitting the floor

are the screws strong enough not to pull out of the wall when the curtains are hung 84 inches long?

I would put anchors on the wall this will secure it and the curtains are thick but not so heavy that it will pull them out .

What are the top three best choices of color to choose in order to blockout the sun and heat?

I ordered cappuccino and they do a great job blocking out the sun. Not sure about the other shades.
