I like bone meal for a soil additive when planting bulbs or other new plants, largely because it's natural and mild enough to not burn delicate plantings - and this is a good product, although one of the 2 bags I ordered arrived with a small leak, so a bit messy.One word of caution, however! If you have critters around, like I do, some of them will smell the bone meal and dig up all of your hard work looking for a tasty bite they will never find. I suspect raccoons, in my case, although I also have plenty of possums, armadillos, skunks, squirrels, foxes, coyotes, and, of course free-roaming dogs and cats that belong to my neighbors. Could have been any of the pain in my posterior critters!So yes, after replanting over 50 bulbs, I now find bone meal less desirable! Maybe if I'd sprayed something foul-smelling on the areas to mask the scent - WD40, bug spray, bathroom cleaner with bleach, I don't know what, but something to dilute the bone meal scent (which is apparently VERY attractive) I would not have to redo all of my back-breaking work. Word to the wise - hide the scent!

I use this stuff on everything when planting. Rub it into the root ball and in the planting hole.
