they changed their wick size !!!!
Hello, I have several Dietz lanterns. Comet 3/8 wick, original 76 1/2 wick, no. 1 little wizard 5/8 wick, d-lite 90 and jupiter 2500 in 7/8 and soon to have also a #8 air pilot 7/8 wick but rising cone burner unlike the other 7/8 wick dietz lanterns. I'd often wondered what lantern took a 3/4. Then I compared the burners between the no.1 little wizard and this 2000 cooker and behold the wick does not have a red stripe but plain white cotton. It is slightly less than 3/4 inch. My experience with cheap Chinese lanterns is that they many times take metric sizes like 8mm, 10mm, 11.2mm, 15mm, 20mm and if you try to use the fractional inch it can be too large and not fit into the burner and advance properly. So, the 20mm is actually bigger than 3/4 inch and the 15mm is used for "5/8" wick usually but not always. My other wicks can be slightly less than the fractional size but this one is enough smaller to cause concern if I put an actual 3/4 inch wick will it work? The larger wick size is welcome as I cooked rice, scrambled eggs with cheese, boiled water for coffee. Yes, I had to bend the wire and we even welded it with stainless rod to make it better after I broke it trying to bend it. Yes, the wire handles are junk because they only used 1 rivet so be careful not to loose the handles on the tiny cookware. However, the chimney is quite large compared to other Dietz and this will allow me to "hotrod" the lantern and squeeze all the BTU's into an aluminum heat sink for cooking. However, I am concerned about this wick. If I receive a 3/4 and it works bravo! There is an American mfg. of wicks on ebay that are all white. I ordered the striped and the pure white and hope it works well. When I'm done with this it'll cook better and I will put a TEG on top for charging. So, mileage will vary. It will do it's intended purpose but they need to update the specs. It has room for serious hotrodding and this is why I like it so much. Best regards, MIke

Excellent purchase!
Just received this today. Looks great came Shipped with no damage at all. Filled with Klean Heat.I was able to boil water in the provided pot with lid in 18 minutes. I had to try my Stainless steel Cup to see how it would do for boiling water too. It took about 18 minutes as well. The Holder didn't fit right out of the Box, I used a pair of needle nose pliers and bent one of the "Tangs" inwards a bit (towards the inner section of the lantern), ZI then pushed down firmly while twisting with equal pressure, I had no issues with deformity when doing so. The cooker part was easily removed and re-attached just fine. Attached are two pictures showing it doing it's thing with my Stainless Steel cup with water boiling in it. I am Very impressed with it so far. This lantern also puts out a good amount of radiant heat as well.UPDATE: 11/01/2017. I decided to try my Coffee Percolator with this. It was able to do the job and coffee came out perfect. I had the flame up as high as it would go without smoking. It took about 2 hours to brew 3 cups of coffee, but it worked, and the Coffee was scolding hot!

Junk. Cheaply made.
I’ve had Amazon for years, bought hundreds of items and never reviewed a product, good or bad. Very disappointed in the quality of this lantern. EVERYTHING about it is cheap, cheap, cheap. I’m not sure if I dare try and use it. Will be sending it back.

Works fine, but I wouldn't want MY name associated with this.
It does everything it advertises, so I don't have much of a complaint, but...it's crooked!! Not by much, but as you can see in the attached picture it's slightly off. Not enough to compromise its ability to function, but enough to be noticeable, and mildly aggravating from an aesthetic perspective when viewed from certain angles. As for how it functions, the globe is clear and casts a nice bright light, same as you might expect from any hurricane lantern. The cooker functions well enough when you dial up the flame to a "light the room" level, and in the image you can see I'm heating up a can of beans. Worked pretty well, and took about a half hour to get it hot enough that I needed to wear a glove to handle the can. With the flame dialed low to "book reading" levels and using the included aluminum cookware it was able to get water hot enough for a cup of tea in about an hour, and of course no glove needed since they have their own heat-dispersing handles. Of course the brighter the flame the more effectively it cooks, but that also burns your kerosene faster. So this isn't the kind of thing I'd rely on specifically for cooking, but if you happen to be using it anyway for light, may as well get a hot snack or cup of tea out of it too. Now mind you this was all indoors. Given that this is a "slow and steady" cooker, I would expect that it would lose some or all of its effectiveness outdoors, especially if it's windy.I'd say overall it does what it claims to do, but for this price I'm disappointed it's crooked. Not disappointed enough to return it though because as I said it does cast light well, and makes good use of heat that would otherwise be wasted.

Great lantern, tried and true design with added features
This lantern is great, its pretty fule efficient and dosent create a great amount of fumes, that may be in part to the lamp oil im using, but its still worth mentioning. I did test out the cook top by cooking a can of beans in the bowl provided, and i was able to have a can of hot beans on a cold day. This also provides a lot of light if turned to the right spot. The only con i have is that the washer on the cap to the fuel tank doesn't make a complete seal and does leak if i tip it too far. I did fill it up a decent amount, and it dosent leak a terrible amount when i do tilt it, but again still worth mentioning. Over all pretty good value for a product to last you a lifetime
