How sturdy is the case? Do pieces go in easliey or fall out?

The case is very sturdy the pieces are secure and won't fall out. I purchased case last year for granddaughter and its still in great condition

what are age recommendations?

My granddaughter is five. She is particular about where the crayons go. Page loves the huge variety and the slot for each crayon. The case is excellent and she enjoys carrying it around.

Do the markers "bleed through" the next page of a coloring book?

It really depends on thickness of the paper. Sometimes they do on copy paper; but not in all coloring books. I have purchased rhis set as gifts many, many times. This kids love it!!!

Are the markers and crayons washable?

The markers are supposed to be washable, but we have had problems getting them off of our wood table (they wash right off of skin, though, with no problem)
