Excellent recurve for the money
When I bought this, I hadn't owned or even shot a bow in over 30 years. My last was a PSE compound when I was I high school. I recently cleared some clutter out of the backyard and noted that I had plenty of empty space, so I decided to set up a little private archery range. This bow (50# draw, RH) was what I settled on after a few hours of reading reviews and I've been quite happy with it. Quality materials and excellent craftsmanship. Assembly was intuitive and quick. My primary use for this bow is target practice and exercise. I put about 25 arrows through it every weeknight after my workout. It's consistently accurate, easy to string/unstring (using a stringer), and comfortable to shoot. It is quite usable as a hunting weapon, in the unlikely event that I feel the sudden urge to go slaughter some frolicking forest fauna. I even bought a few broadheads against the possibility. I suspect they'll never even be fitted to arrows, but it's nice to have them if I need them.Whether you're returning to archery as I am or just starting into it, this is an affordable, quality bow which will serve you well. You're not going to win any archery competitions with it, but that is not its intended use; it is a backyard bow and serves that purpose admirably.

Nice bow, great customer service, good budget entry into recurves
Let me start by saying I love the bow. I am the owner of a Samick Journey and a vintage Ben Pearson Mustang, so I have some experience with traditional archery and instinctive shooting. The reason I purchased the SAS Courage was to get a hunting bow with a lighter pull. I've had some increasing shoulder discomfort that has made it unpleasant for me to shoot a 55 lb. draw weight recurve. I opted for a 40 lb. bow, mostly for practice, but that I could hunt with in a pinch (if my shoulder doesn't get back to normal). The bow has a good fit and finish and a nice feel to it. The limbs fasten snugly into riser, aided by a metal stud that fits into a dimple. It does require a tool (hex wrench) to install the limbs.Feel is good, solid. The bow comes stripped down without any extras other than hex wrench and string. The limb tips are not reinforced, so a Fast Flight string is not optional. I installed a bear-hair rest I ordered separately and I nocked the string. There are no attachment points for add ons like a stabilizer or a sight. It shoots very well, comparable, in fact, to my Samick. There is some vibration but not enough to make it uncomfortable. There is a bad part, but a happy ending. The lower limb succumbed to the pressure applied during string installation. The layers between the outer layers snapped rendering the bow useless. I looked up Southland Archery Supply online and they had my Amazon order on file and IMMEDIATELY offered to send a replacement lower limb. Within an hour I had a tracking number emailed to me. The new limb arrived today... Absolutely amazing customer service (thanks, to Jeff, the sales and customer service manager at SAS!).I'm sold on the service. I am sold on the platform. And the riser is clean, solid and nice. I'm not feeling great about how that limb broke, but I am keeping my review at four stars... for the money, this is a nice bow. If it holds up after another month or two of regular shooting, I'll keep my star level the same, but I reserve the right to change it later if I have additional limb issues.

great starter bow
I am just starting out in archery. I bought the 40-lbs version of this bow. My purpose is not to hunt, but rather to have something to shoot in the back yard (can't shoot guns in my HOA-ruled subdivision!). For the lolz, I suppose.Anyway, assembly is easy. The studs on the riser have a very tight fit into the holes in the limbs, but don't despair if it seems too tough. I lined everything up just fine, and gently, but with authority, hand-screwed down the allen-head screw to secure the limbs to the risers. The studs popped right into place.I used the old-man "step-through" method of stringing at first, just to try it. For safety reasons, I do not recommend it. However, being a 6-foot man with muscles, I strung it just fine. I also bought a bow stringer, which is the safe way to string a recurve. Point it, it strings just fine. The string is great.I fired some fiberglass arrows that a buddy lent me. They had stiffness of 350, which I understand is not stiff enough for a recurve, so I'll buy some stiffer ones later. Point is, bow fires just fine. Takes a lot of practice to learn the "intuitive aiming" thing, but that's the point, to have something fun to do in the back yard. I have shot at many wood and foam targets from 20 yards and had a medieval riot doing it.As a beginner, I highly recommend this bow for other beginners. Just be safe and use a bow stringer.

it’s like any new bow
Everybody says get a Sage. Well I have one. It shoots well but somehow I’ve never warmed up to it. Bows can be personal. Bought this because of the price and reviews. Yes,it’s like any new bow, it had to be set up properly to shoot well. Brace height is critical as is the nocking point. It’s also loud until you put puffs on the string. Now that I have shot it a few hundred times i find I can shoot it as well as my Bear Grizzly. It’s a takedown an that’s a plus. I don’t think you will find a better budget hunting/field bow. It’s flat shooting and forgiving. I have a 50 lb. but I see they sell extra limbs for lots less than the Sage. Only negative is it not fast flight compatable. Also comes with continuous loop string. I still need to upgrade to Flemish
