The wood seems pretty nice and has a good grain, but the shaping and finish are weird. There are large dips in the edges which I think are supposed to indicate hand-carving, but they seem routered. And the finish is a very shiny shellack that looks cheap. It would be a million times better if they just finished it with oil instead. Also, if you are lazy like me and like hanging things by thumbtacks instead of nails, the hangy thing on the back is too small to fit over a thumbtack. (But that makes sense given its size, so that's really more my problem that its!)

There is no white paint on the wood as shown.

This was a gift to a person belonging to our church who moved away. It was a remembrance of her relationship with us. It served the purpose nicely.
