I work in the entertainment industry. There are many 'apps' for iPhone that control or set up devices for the work I do. One device is a "Tentacle Sync" device to 'jam' timecode across many devices (cameras, sound recorders, slates, etc.). Moving from the Android platform to IOS, I 'lost' my 1/8th inch audio jack. It is impossible to jam timecode into the Tentacle Sync's without a TRRS cable. This cable allows me to plug into an iPhone 14 Max Pro, and then connect the Tentacle Sync to the iPhone! Works like a charm!

This adapter worked fine on my iPAD mini and my iPhone XR.... BUT... it can be complicated for a couple of reasons. First, look at the photo of this microphone plug.. it has a TRRS plug, it has 4 parts, with 3 black separator bands. This adapter is only for TRRS plugs.. just not gonna work with a garden variety TRS plug that has only 3 parts to it... and most consumer mics are TRS plugs. You must have a mic plug that has 4 parts (TRRS) then you can happily use all those alternatives to the built in phone or tablet mic... lavalier, shotgun, handheld, etc... as long as they have that magic TRRS plug. Second.. remember to unplug the adapter if you want to hear the recording.. yes, the sound is there, but it cuts out the speaker... so if left connected, you won't be able to hear anything. Videotape something, unplug the adapater to check sound... yes, kind of a pain. There are other adapters that do much more - two inputs, an app to adjust some parameters, but that will run about 8 times more and still require TRRS plugs. This isn't fancy, but does the job for one input ... as long as it's a TRRS microphone. Have I said TRRS enough? Good taping.. !

Item was delivered efficiently. Does what it is supposed to do. I used it for connecting wired earplugs to my phone which takes the lightning connector.

Quality is good. The connector-cable attachment could be a little more robust. Works great for speaker and mic trrs functionality.

This review is for the BOYA model BY-K3 Female 3.5mm TRRS jack/Male Lightning plug adapter. I am using it with an Apple iPhone 12 Mini on iOS 18.7.1. Using the adapter enables my microphone/headphone combo headset to both listen to audio as well as record video with audio. The audio comes out much better than with the mic on the iPhone. Notice in the picture that the connector plug for the headset is TRRS: this means the headset's plug has electrical conductors on its four metallic conductor elements: Tip/Ring/Ring/Sleeve. Note that trying to use an adapter that has an internal female TRS jack rather than an internal TRRS female jack will result in partial or no functionality.

Initially I thought this didn’t work. It does! The trick is to plug the cable into the adapter first THEN plug the firewire end into your phone. It won’t work if you do this in reverse order! Glad I can finally use my iPhone tethered to my Zoom P8!
