It's made of wood, and it has a really smooth finish. It feels sturdy and well-made! The design of this belan is quite traditional. It's basically a solid piece of wood that's thicker in the middle and tapers off towards the ends. This is the kind of rolling pin I grew up seeing in kitchens, and I really like this style. The smooth wooden surface means the dough doesn't stick too much, especially if you dust it lightly with flour, which is normal practice anyway.
