Dumb Question? Where is the refigerant stored when pulling a vacuum?

To answer your question directly, the refrigerant is stored in a refrigerant recovery tank / refrigerant recovery machine. Ironically, if you had a recovery machine, you wouldn't need to buy this kit.. Refrigerant will not be in the system when when drawing down into a vacuum. This kit allows you to vacuum the system and charge new refrigerant back into the system. Nothing about it recovers and stores refrigerant.

This unit will be good for a r-134a refigerant cooling system. that uses non ozone depleting refigerant? ac unit for 4.0 yj wrangler. thanks.

The type of Freon doesn't matter to the vacuum pump. I have used mine on both a car and a home AC unit. This pump should accommodate the fittings on your Jeep. If you use it on a home type AC unit you will need different adapters to fit the ports on the AC. These are inexpensive and easily obtained on Amazon.

The quick connects on the manifold are blocked, so does anybody know the purpose for the included quick disconnect fittings?

They are simply for "hooking" the end of your hoses (ones that connect to car) when not using the gauge set. It's a glorified coat hook to keep things nice and clean.

How log have you owned, hows it holding up?

Have owned only for a short time. Gauges seem to be ok. Pump unused so far.
