No. This is a very English fruit bread, it's sweet and sticky and very delicious with just a smear of butter. If you don't like English fruit cake, then you won't like this. It has a flavor from malty molasses.

Q: Are these deliciously squidgy?

Yes, they are! Moist and tasty, especially healed slightly with a pat of butter. Just as I remember while living in England :-)
