Sports Medicine Patient Advisor: 9780984303106: Medicine & Health Science Books @ desertcart.com Review: Great resource for seniors - The Sports Medicine Patient Advisor, Third Edition I see a lot of seniors limping around because of nerve and muscle pain. You don't have to be an athlete to benefit from this book. In the past, I found references to this book on an Osteopath's website. The references proved to be helpful with a couple of my muscle and nerve problems. Since the references are no longer on the website, I purchased the book. I have found this book to be a valuable resource for seniors. Once you have been diagnosed by your doctor, it can provide useful information concerning specific stretches to help with your physical therapy. It is not a medical text book, but it can provide enough information to help the patient on the road to recovery. The book covers ailments of all the major muscle groups from the neck down. I have flagged numerous sections in the book for my personal referencing. Being a senior active in multiple sports, the book gives me greater peace of mind. I have found information concerning a few issues that I always wondered about, but my primary care physician could not provide adequate answers. It has helped with my sciatic nerve pain, strained groin muscle, and tight iliotibial band. The key is to have a quality stretch everyday. It may take weeks or months to reach your goal, but you will eventually see improvement in range of motion and absence of pain. This book does not replace a thorough evaluation by a well trained physical therapist. Your physical therapist should demonstrate the range of motion that you should have - that range of motion will be your goal. This book will be your at home reference. Review: Excellent Book to Use for Patient Hand Outs! - This book is amazing! It's full of physical therapy exercises & stretches to help reduce chronic pain due to common musculoskeletal conditions. The book is divided into regions of the body, making ailments easy to find. It contains all the most common conditions. It also includes a quick definition of the illness and the nerves/muscles involved. Certified sports doctors at my clinic routinely use this book to educate patients. They copy select pages to create hand-outs for patients to take home. It's a great way for patients to get pain relief while they wait for their physical therapy referrals!

Great book with helpful exercises with photos
Working in a rural health clinic, I don’t have physical therapy in my small clinic or in the town I work. Many of my patients can’t or don’t want to travel into the bigger city to do physical therapy. This book has coming in handy to give them exercises they can do at home to help with various conditions/injuries. I like that it has pictures and is written in easy to understand terms.

Great for use in practice
Great for use in medical practice with uninsured patients who can’t afford physical therapy. The exercises have illustrations are easy to follow. I wish they were in both Spanish and English. It has been a great tool to have

Sports Medicine Patient Advisor
I regularly use this book in my Family Medicine office. Alot of patients come to see me with different aches and pains, and these pages are very easy to photocopy and provide to the patients. It gives a few sentences on anatomy, a picture of the anatomy showing the problem area, examples of the symptoms (pain with a certain motion, for example), care instructions (ice for a few days, for example), and good physical therapy diagrams to help heal the problem and prevent it from happening again. A very useful resource.

Best patient instruction book available!
I'm a nurse and find this book great for myself and patients. The explanations are clear and easy to understand. Included is a description of each problem, what causes it, what are the symptoms, how it's diagnosed, how it's treated, prevention suggestions and rehab exercises with photos. We use it daily. It is so useful I purchased one for home.

Highly recommend!!!
This book is a great book to use with patients! It gives mechanisms and quick home exercise. It reinforces the diagnosis, and gives your patient something other than verbal instructions to take home for later. I recommend having the binding cut and spiraled at staples or something in order to make copies for handouts easier.
