They're "adjustable"
I have a pair of powered speakers and the various wildlife in my house kept knocking out the plugs. The stock pieces as sent would not fit, which was surprising considering how much play was in the plug. I cut the bottom flat section out of one of the sleeves and the top "U" section fit perfect. Holds the cords nice and snug. I used the bottom flat part on my guitar amp and same result, fit perfect and held the cord snug. So now you actually get twice as many.
