Math Basics, Grade 2 (School Zone Interactive) Paperback – September 5, 2003

Good little book and cd- helped my daughter tremendously .

My sons both hated math. As a homeschooling mother, I couldn't live with the complaining every time I pulled out the math books. I tried everything I could think of, that didn't cost an arm and a leg to make learning basic math skills enjoyable and relatively easy for them.This book and CD-ROM set did the trick.The books are colorful and fun, to the point where my boys will flip ahead in the book, and find pages they want to do right away. I tell them they can do them when they get to them. It's all the incentive they need. There are dot-to-dots, color by numbers, "crosswords" and a myriad of other fun ways to learn the necessities.The CD-ROM is even more fun for them... even though it's really just the book on the computer screen. No kidding, the pages often look identical, even though the actual problems have changed. Who cares? Apparently not the kids. They LOVE it. In between pages, which never have more than, say, 10 problems on them, there are little entertaining animations. Then after every couple of pages, there's a little game for them to play. It never lasts for more than a couple of minutes, but they really enjoy them. There's a howling coyote version of the game "Simon", a kangaroo jumping game, and a snake game where you see how long you can run around in the grass before the snake gets so long that you run into something. It seems to me there's more, but I can't think of them at the moment.All in all, I highly recommend this set. Math class is a breeze now. They think they're playing... I know they're learning.
