I have 4 boys, therefore need 4 boats or there will be chaos. How can I ensure the radio frequencies of their boats do not interfere with each other?

Basically, its pot luck what you get. We bought 3 boats, which ours boys absolutely luved but 2 of them worked with the same frequency so we ended up returning 1 and having to share!
