I have been using this for Policy Council meetings now for several months. The battery is solid and holds up well, the an ease of use that many of these do not have. We set this on one side of the conference room and record the meeting from the entire room. It filters out some of the rumbling noises from air conditioning and whispering making voices are clear and easy to hear even from across the room.

I returned this product because this recorder came with a pre-installed exploit virus that was detected and quarantined by BitDefender. This was not discovered until after I completed a test recording. [][][] THE TEST: To test the recorder, I played a youtube video of singing and then a Ted Talk to hear the quality of different genres of potential input. I also adjusted the volume to simulate distance between speaker and microphone, to determine the impact of background noise on audibility. First, there was a significant amount of ambient hissing before the singing video began. Then the singing was very low and garbled with the recorder volume all the way up. This resolved when the singer increased his volume, but was only an okay quality for the price of the recorder. If you are using this for anything and concerning music, this matters a great deal. The TedTalk was much clearer, so the quality for speech is great. [][][] THE VIRUS: I also wanted to test the speech to text feature as this would save me a lot of time. When I plugged the recorder in, I found inside the folders that there was text already in the system. I assume this was the mfg to test the recorder and simply had not been deleted. Nevertheless, it had clear errors in translation as the intended text appeared to be: "hold onto your dreams" but it read as "hold onto your gyms James," which is nonsensical. Because the recorder gave errors each time I attempted to use this feature for speech (not the singing video recorded) I read the instructions and found that the execution file and the recording need to be copied onto the hard-drive and run from the CPU. It went on to state that the file should not be placed in the Programs or Programs (x86) folder as it will not work there. I placed it into its own folder inside of My Documents and clicked on the executable to run the program and begin the speech-to-text process. Bitdefender immediately popped up and stated that an exploit virus was detected, the process was stopped, disinfection was underway, and finally - that threat was in quarantine.[][][] DO NOT BUY THIS DEVICE IF YOU DO NOT WANT A VIRUS ON YOUR SYSTEM.

I was sent a JWD recorder, and not the brand I thought I was. That said, it worked at first. I didn't like how the functions performed, but I taught myself how to use the device. I was very disappointed, like other reviewers that the device does not truly offer transcription. Very disappointed.Also, 4 months ago the device stopped charging/working/recording/playback. I have legal recordings on the device that I cannot download. I'm stressed trying to find a way to get the recordings transferred to my laptop when the device will only show a glowing screen and no menu. NO customer service or tech support available. SO, I do not suggest buying this item for multiple reasons.

Bought this recorder for ONE reason over all others: it was advertised as being able to transcribe recordings.It is a beautiful little recorder, EXCELLENT workmanship, looks more like a little jewel.Records audio flawlessly.However, it is UNABLE to transcribe recordings: the user would have to install a software package, which should be stored on the recorder. It ISN'T. Worked with the vendor for several days, they were unable to provide the missing software.Since that was my most needed feature, I had to return it.If all you need is a GREAT recorder, get it. However, DO NOT count on transcription.

I love this tiny voice recorder. The small size makes it so convenient to carry with you. I bought it for my daughter to use to help with note taking. Now, she can just listen to the lecture and absorb the information and transcribe it later. It is easy to use and the sound quality is good. It picks up voices clearly.

Device's function is good but can use some updates on the ruggedness of the on and record button.The usb interface to your computer is not that user friendly for none technical people. I recommend that the company upgrade the features and the device menu options.But overall for the price of dictation, memos and note transcription, the price is about right for what it can do.

I love this little guy. The device is compact but feels sturdy. The controls are common sense and easy to use. The playback audio off the device is crystal clear! I havent tried the voice to text dictation yet, but expect nothing less than what I have seen thus far. Great product for a great price.

If I could give it a zero, I would. The first one I got did not work at all. I had to return it. The second one I got, the recording worked. The sound quality was ok. It would not let me change the sound quality setting, so instead of having 4 options, I had 1. Also, the transcription app did not work which is why I bought the unit in the first place. When I tried importing the audio file I had created, it would close the app. I tried recording different sound file types, but the setting kept defaulting back to HQ (wav file format). It may work better on Windows systems, but no good for MAC. As i sit and write, it has now started hissing at a high pitch. I had to unplug it from my Mac to get it to stop.
