When Rain Clouds Gather

Powerful story of how one village works to break out of custom to better provide for its community. It's much more than this. A philosophy of generosity and kindness, a choice to put community ahead of materialism while improving farming practices. The characters are well drawn and have expanded my understanding of and appreciation for the culture of one village in Botswana and maybe the world.

Not bad!

I couldn't put this book down. I laughed and cried and marvelled at the gift of story telling Bessie had. Filled with depth and soul and the characters will stay with you for a very long time.

Book came to me fast; Before I expected it. Thank you!

Invigorating and meaningful story.

This was a book I had hard time putting down. I enjoyed the characters and the way the book allowed me to see into their lives.

The seller is selling grade school readers in place of the actual novel. There was no indication that I was purchasing a reader fit for 5th graders rather than Besse Head's novel When Rain Clouds Gather. I think this is misrepresenting the title. I needed this item for a college class. I purchased it with enough time to get my novel for my class but was unable to use it or return it.

Never would have thought of ordering this if it wasn't for my Women's Lit class but it was a great read and I didn't want to put it down

A beautiful book,the characters having all the warmth and humanity that allows you to connect with people you only know as words on a page.Slight niggle: condition was described as very good, but there was a stain on the back cover which only took a few minutes rubbing with a cold damp cloth to remove. Also looks as if it had been a bit wrinkled then left under a heavy weight to straighten the cover out for sale. Singnificant yellowing of the page ends that I didn't expect of an item rated 'very good' condition. Think I'll either stick with brand new, or only buiy used that are from a recent edition.

Neglected to read the details before I made my purchase, being new to Amazon and also in a hurry.It's an abridged version for learners of English as a second language, so perhaps naturally, I didn't derive the joy from this which I did from the original Bessie Head novel I read years ago. Trying to find time to return it and hopefully get a refund.So yeah, don't go buying this thinking it's the novel. It isn't.
