RL-350 Braille Labeler

5 stars for the labeler itself, but 3 stars for the tape as does NOT stick to hard plastic (as attested by other reviewers as well).-- Comes with one full roll of self-adhesive, vinyl tape. See-through (clear) tape works great, as can go over written words without covering them up. So, sight & sight-impaired can tell what the label means. See separate review only giving 3 stars for the vinyl tape given have to shipping-tape both sides to any hard plastic surface (but does stick to kitchen cabinetry, glass, paper, and ziplocks).-- Does require repetitive gripping as squeeze labeler's trigger for each letter rotate the Braille wheel to (can be hard to see as quite small). Also, requires double hard trigger grip on the "cut" mode (icon on the wheel) to cut the tape. So, somewhat strong hand strength is required if plan on doing a lot of labels in one sitting.-- The device does a GREAT job once cut of providing a self-starter, perforated pull-tab at the END of the label to aid in easily removing the backing to expose the sticky, back-side of the tape (this also serves the non-Braille reader to know which side is the end, so don't stick the label upside down on item trying to label).-- Use Tip #1: To sidestep several hassles with the tape, I advise clicking (half squeeze) the trigger twice before starting to actual punch a letter. This allows the tape to be long enough to 1.) not cut off the 1st Braille letter, 2.) get the tape easily out of the device once cut, and 3.) the edges to be long enough to tape (clear shipping tape works) to the surface should the actual vinyl sticky back not stick to the surface.-- Use Tip #2: If the cut tape feels like it's hung up, ensure squeezed trigger long enough to hear audible "click", then let go of the trigger. Then, simply depress the trigger again, but only half way (while still on the cut icon). This will hold the uncut tape in place, while allowing the cut piece to be pulled out.

It is very easy to cut this wider vinyl tape, and use it with the labeler. It functions wonderfully for making and using labels on either smooth or rough surfaces, but may melt in the summer. Or get really sticky!

They Braille, but they jam up and suck as far as durability overall! Find a vintage one on whatever platform you can purchase one from! The modern ones suck!

I bought this expensive item for a blind friend and I (WE) have spent hours trying to get it to work! It will not feed the tape and it has never embossed one single Braile letter. I procrastinated too long to return this *_)**& for a refund. I have contacted the seller to see what if any customer service I will get. If I am lucky they will replace this with one that works.I will keep you posted on their response.UPDATEThe company reached out to me and they replaced the defective item with one that works!! So hats off to them for caring for and about their customers.

This product was not available in Germany so I ordered it from the US and that worked just fine (arrived just as predicted). Also not a problem that I payed with my regular German Amazon account and my German credit card.I did not use the product enough to judge it properly but my first impression is good. I agree that the tape does not stick properly on some surfaces but overall it sticks just fine.I was happy that it works with regular tape that is available in Germany.

I needed something portable to replace a LabelMaker that I had. That was exactly like it, that ended up breaking. This is the third such labeler that I’ve had, and what I find is that they work fine at first, but after about a year is functioning, it breaks. The problem is that it’s easy for a sliver of tape to get stuck where it shouldn’t be, and once that happens, it’s difficult to clear the tape out of it, and at that point, you might as well replace it. My advice? Save your money and get the 6-dot braa label maker instead. It’s pricey, but it’s faster, more, reliable, more durable, and definitely more efficient.

I bought this to label items for my grandson, who was born blind. This will help his parents label items for him as he grows and learns braille. Very easy to use.

I had no clue these things existed but holy s**t did this make my life easier! I labeld everything at first, TV remotes, cans of food, my daughter even put her name on her phone so I wouldn't be able to go through it and say I accidentally thought it was mine LoL.After realizing that I could put actual numbers on my stupid microwave keypad though, that's when it really kicked in high gear for me. I went on a labeling frenzy with my washer and dryer, my stove control panel, my coffee maker, even some specific buttons on a TV remote instead of just which remote it was.For the record all of my remotes are different sizes so it was kind of a waste labeling them since I know which one it is by picking it up already LoL.If you're blind and love being independent get one of these, it's absolutely a game changer!
