Straight lines!!!
I had to paint our hallway woodwork an that had 5 door ways off it and I knew my ability to run masking tape around each door frame and skirting board would be a challenge. I saw this and did some research - watching a few YouTube reviews and it was a mixed result.I decided to take the plunge and ordered it along with ScotchBlue Multi-Surface Premium Masking Tape, 36 mm x 41 m, 4 Rolls/Case - the roll that's supplied barely did one door frame but these fitted the applicator and worked very well!Would I recommend this to family and or friends - YESIs it difficult to use - NOKeep the edge on your door frame/floor etc and make sure there are no lumps of paint that will push it out and you'll mask the door frame in a few minutes - it is so simple to use and the results are fantastic.I left the masking tape on for 3 days - 2 undercoats and 2 top coats - no bleed through or creeping under the edges and very straight lines.

Handy masking tool
I have used this for masking up door and window frames and it provides a neat tight fitting masking edge. The tape width is also wide enough to use a mini roller for edging without any paint on the adjoining edge which is quicker then using a paint brush which is a bonus.

Glorified Tape Dispenser
This product has over 2600 reviews, mostly five stars, which will no doubtedly lead people to buy it, however, it must be important to note that this is either an error, as in, the previous item listed on this page has been swapped out as often seen, or it’s from international reviews which again, may serve no purpose to this product. Therefore the reality of this product is that it is useless, and not fit for its intended purposes. It’s a big bulky piece of plastic with two fabric pads, and two wheels. The item does not glide along the roof or floor as intended, it just clunks and bangs awkwardly. The tape doesn’t cut from the dispenser in any easy fashion, so you have to rip it off by hand or pull the unit from the wall/floor, separating the tape in any event….If you manage to get it to roll along the wall or floor for any moment in time, it isn’t level, as the tape doesn’t form part of the actual unit, it just sits independently shaking around in its basket and your guided by the feet… therefore it’s no different than doing it by hand?As such, all it really is, is a tape dispenser for frog tape…I had hoped this would save some time during some decorating work, but unless your pairing the Sistine Chapel, I’ve realised life is too short, and some slight lines out of place on my roof by hand isn’t the end of the world. There is a competitor of this out there, however that’s again over £60, and approx £80 with delivery, albeit it does look like that would work, again, I doubt anyone but you would notice your slight imperfections if you used frog tape by hand.

Works but unnecessary
The tape applicator does work however for me ended up being a bit of a faff to make work correctly. Between trying to get it to cut at the right point and having to refill it, I found that after a few uses I preferred to use the tried and tested method of just doing it by hand and ripping it. This worked out to be faster and easier for me but maybe my technique is just poor! Overall I would say save yourself a few quid and just do it by hand. It does work, it just didn't rock my world.

It’s ok
It’s a good tape applicator, not as good as a good eye and careful hand.

The best thing I've bought this year!
This tool is just brilliant- I was redecorating the hall way upstairs and down and I had so much to tape off- 8 doors, skirtings, stairs, bannisters and floorboards! Is still took a good while but so much faster and easier using this tool.To address some of the negatives in some other reviews- make sure to buy the wider width tape then it doesn't move so much on the roll. For shorter stretches is easier to just pull it off piece by piece like a dispenser- still so much quicker as you're able to get off small pieces with right angled ends so you can get right in the corners without faffing. For longer stretches I found it works best to hold the starting end down, then just pull the dispenser out for a foot or 2 (not along the wall) then keeping the tape taught, move the tool so it's in line with skirting (or whatever) and then press the tape to stick it firmly. There are times where I did run it directly along the wall like it's suggested in the photos etc but found in general it works best the other way and is easier to get a super straight line, as you've more control as long as you use the skirting as a guide when placing the tool back against the wall. Also, when you are finishing and want to break the tape, I found I got more consistent tears where i wanted them if I had the end away from the wall and used my other hand to brace it, else sometimes it wouldn't tear straight or the tape pulled away.Hope these points make sense and didn't sound negative- I've only covered these points in such detail as I was nearly put off by some of the reviews. But honestly, this little gadget made a hateful job soooo much better!
