Perfect set for doing rj45 cable work
I was online searching for just a cheap crimping tool and maybe like a 10-pack of RJ-45 connectors (I know I'm cheap, I already have enough expenses) to repair the damaged ends of a cable stretching through the house, and then I came across this cable pack online, and it was literally cheaper then getting just those two items separately, and came with much more (I got the lowest price $14 pack). The crimping tool was made of a pretty sturdy material and didn't feel too cheap or like it was going to break at all. Some other reviewers seem to have problems with misaligned teeth, but mine were perfect (honestly it's probably a higher quality then what I was originally looking at), so maybe they have that fixed by now. You get a 100-pack of RJ-45 heads, which is way more then I need, but pretty cool to have. The yellow plastic thing is a cable stripper and made cutting the plastic off the cable really easy without touching the wires inside. Finally it comes with a cable tester, which I wasn't even going to get because I'm cheap, but ended up being really useful actually. It's made of an obviously very cheap plastic, and probably cheaper parts, but it does the job well and I can't complain. It consists of two modules, you plug in both ends of the cable, and one sends a signal, while the other receives it. The modules themselves have 8 signals lights that are triggered, one for each wire, and will light up sequentially from wire #1 through wire #8 if connected correctly. If you crimped the cable wrong, for instance inserted the wires in the wrong order, instead of lighting up 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8, it would light up something like 1-3-2-4-5-6-7-8, so pretty useful to make sure you did it right. The only thing that I would like to see is maybe an instruction manual on how the crimping process works, I had to do a bit of searching, but nothing too bad. Overall, it's a really great product for it's price

Awesome for the cost
OK, first let me say that the 5 stars is given while taking price into consideration. I have been working with computers including IT & networking since 1996 and have worked with many products and tools in that timeframe. I owned & operated a computer resource center in NY for 10 years during that time and made many patch cords and line drops. Now you know a bit of my history....I purchased and am using this for my home/personal use. To be honest after reading the reviews I bought it simply to get an inexpensive tester and figured the crimper was to be tossed (based on other reviews). As soon as I received this I used it to make lines for a new router and to add 2, 4 port switches to my network. I wanted to be able to give a full review of this set so I used only these items and not tools or ends I already owned. I found each and every item in the package to work as designed and without fail. This includes the crimper. I made many cords and never had to remake one or to recrimp one due to it having a poor or weak connection end.I fully admit that you can buy better quality tools/items at higher prices but for my home needs and usage this kit performed perfectly and I would recommend it to anyone. IF you do not know how to make the wires or if you are not positive of the lengths of the strands or where the shielding should end inside the plug, google images of the proper way to do it. IF you fail to get the ends all the way in or put too much or too little of the shielding in the end to catch it right on the crimp then it is not the fault of the tool when the wire does not work or comes apart. I am not saying that this is what anyone else has done BUT I have seen (1st hand) many people make these wires incorrectly and think it is the fault of the tool or material when it was actually poor workmanship on the makers part. Even the very best of tools and material is limited to the makers skill level and patients. And while this kit is far from the best set it is a perfectly fine set especially at this price. One last note as I know many have and will ask.... the G on the tested is only going to light up in you are using a shielded (Grounded) cable. IF your cord is of lesser quality (not shielded) then it is normal for only the 1-8 lights to turn green and the "G" to NOT light up.

Everything you need, but technically difficult.
Wanted to make some custom Ethernet cables and hardwire my house.PROS:-Complete: This kit has everything you need to put ends on Ethernet cables. Would also work for phone line too, but you would need different ends.-Includes wire tester: This is huge! Allows you to check your work before using. Remote capability means you can separate the two halves of the tester and make sure you have a good connection even if it spans different rooms.-Low-cost: You get a lot in this kit for what it costs.CONS:-No instructions: You will have to look up the order in which to cap the wires (there are 8 colored wires).-Technically difficult: I had great difficulty getting the wires to stay in order before putting caps on. Multiple attempts were needed for each cap.-Low-quality caps: These are not the "pull-through" type caps, so wire lengths need to be perfect in order for this to work and it's a little more challenging to get a good connection.IMPRESSION:Good kit if you want to start making your own Ethernet cable ends (or phone line). You may want to purchase higher quality (pull-through) caps to make the job easier. Look up pictures to get the right order of the wires.
