A wonderful game to play solo
I enjoyed my Mummy's Mask set of the previous edition and had to get my hands on this new version of the game. The smaller box makes it easier for me to have on my table but also to carry to my friend's house (before covid). It is basically the same game with a few tweaks to make it run smoother. The wording in the rules has been cleared up and the modularity that has been promised between upcoming expansions (CotCT and who knows what else in the future) really has kept my interest in creating my own scenarios and storybooks for my friends. My friend 3d printed holders for the cards after I expressed my thoughts about the sheer amount of table space this game needs even for a single player. I would really want for paizo to make their own versions of these card holders, I feel like it makes it easy to move the location infront of the player currently in it so they aren't reaching across the table. But also to create location decks and save them for the next play each in their own little stand. The cards between the two editions are different and I feel like it is for the better. Previously all cards had this greyish color scheme to their borders. The new one makes all the different sorts of items pop at a glance letting you know how many of what type you have in your hand. However, even with the differences between cards I find it very easy to use both kinds in one game session. The backs for both versions is the same.

Nice improvements. A+
I have several of the first edition boxed sets and have played them a lot. I have been through this rule book 2-3 times, and introduced 6 new players through the intro scenario. The intro scenario is good to get peoples interest started, I can be played with 2-4 characters but tends to be too short with 4 characters (only 7 turns max) so i'd suggest playing with 2.Earlier today I played the first scenario with my wife and we had 4 characters, and played "Normal." It was VERY challenging and we did not complete it. I like that it was hard, we can scale it down if necessary (or even up.) This is a very good feature to the game. Monsters & barriers are much harder than any of the base sets I have played. On average I'd say combat checks average is 12 (compared to 8 or 9.) Monsters are also more dangerous with after affects and abilities making armor more valuable than previous editions. Barriers are also scaled up a few points over older editions. All In all I love the changes and i can't wait to dig in more!

Mixed feelings, trying to be positive.
I was looking forward to and enjoyed the first four-something games, but then novelty wears off and the game become a bit repetitive. Some scenarios make you loose for the wrong choice in characters, with little to do about it. Unfortunately those are also the ones that are least repetitive.Still a quick game for a couple of friends to roll some dice, have a drink and not worry about theme or setting much. Just have some fun, then stow it away and take it out whenever.

Good but different from previous sets.
A great game. Rule set has been cleaned up from previous versions and flows very well. Story is interesting and fun.I still don't know if LSG has officially named this a true 2nd edition but for all intents and purposes it it. If you loved the 1st edition sets, then let it be known that this current edition changes several things and there is a change of pace. Several blogs out there on Google if you want in depth details. All of it I consider a plus. The only cons I have is that I am prefer the old style art and card layout. Not a deal breaker at all for me of course. Still works really well.

Great for the (current) price at 34
I've introduced 4 different groups to this set, and they've all bought it as a response. There's not a ton in the Core Set (as it's meant to expand with other adventures like The Curse of the Crimson Throne. But it does have a good adventure path in it, and a customization 'create your own' scenario that is a ton of fun.I used to play the original releases, had all of Rise of the Runelords and Skull and Shackles. They cleaned up a lot of rules and did a fantastic job of re-balancing the game. I really hope there's another expansion soon, as all 4 groups are zooming through this set and the current expansion. At $34, I highly recommend getting this and the expansion.

Excellent update to a fantastic game
My friends and I have been LOVING the new sets. Streamlined and expanded while still feeling like the same great game. I love how the new core set works, and I can already envision adding new banes and boons as time goes one.Thank you for all of your hard work on this one. Super fun. Will absolutely buy all new sets that come out.

Great game - Repayable
Overall, I love this game. It is a great cooperative game that can be played in 1 - 2 hour spurts. It has replay value, but even playing through all the material one time takes many hours so there is a lot of value. It is fun for small groups as well as solo play.
