I bought this to add a third external display to my mid-2015 15.5" Macbook Pro with a discrete graphics card. The old MBP with NVidia graphics could simultaneously support three external displays, but one consequence of Apple's switch to Radeon cards is that they only have enough power to drive two external displays at once. The fix is to use at least one "active" dongle (like this one), which allows some power to be drawn from the monitor rather than all supplied by the graphics card. My third display is up and running, and I love it!

CONFIRMED: THIS WORKS FOR 4K on my SEIKI 39" monitor. I have a VisionTek graphics card with 2 HDMI and 1 mini DisplayPort for a triple 4K monitor set up. The problem was that I needed a mini DisplayPort to HDMI converter that allowed 4K. THIS ITEM WORKS for 4K!!!! I purchased one from brand 'cable matters' for around $10 and it did not work. I'VE BEEN SAVED BY STARTECH!!!! THANK YOU

Product claims to convert mini dp to hdmi 1.4. Therefore it is supposed to support 4k resolutions 3840x2160 @ 30Hz. The product did function at this resolution but not without blanking issues, flicker issues, and random snow artifacts. Additionally slightly lower bandwidths had less issues (24 Hz was less annoying than 30 Hz). As the product heats up the issues become more frequent. It got to the point where the screen would blank out for 5 seconds every 2 minutes. Granted this could be a bad unit but my friends used a competitor product (Accel) and had no issues at all. I borrowed theirs and didn't have any issues as well so I chose to return and buy that product instead. Product was fully functional at HD resolutions like 1080p 60 Hz and 720p. So I suspect the device just can't handle the bandwidth demands of 4k 30 Hz. Amazon was quick to take it back when I said it didn't work properly at the advertised specs. As usual very happy I bought this through Amazon instead of directly from manufacturer or another 3rd party website.

Needed an Active Display to HDMI adapter for connecting a 3rd monitor my Mid-2015 Macbook Pro. First one stopped working consistently within 2 weeks. Replacement they sent did the same thing. So frustrating. EDIT: I just changed my Macbook to no longer do active graphics switching. This has cleared up a lot of issues. It will still blink black every hour or so, but it does work mostly now. This may just be a Macbook Pro 2015 compatability issue. Not sure yet.

over all works, but poor assembly. came to me in parts the plastic was disconnected from the pcb i had to snap it back in place and put some super glue on it to make it stay. but it works fine now its first day so lets see.... does 4k and 3k without problem no lag using vizio p602ui-b3 60" in gaming mode with lenovo w541 so works fine. running at 3k res 3840x 2160. also this adapter supports 4096 x 2160 supports max 30hz ref rate. nice buy, but i hopes they do more quality control on the way out. as i received the part in pieces and had to assemble it my self.

For work I have to present/train in various areas (classrooms, libraries, conference rooms, etc.) all with different connections need for their projection equipment. These products work seamlessly for my SurfacePro

Connected an nVidia T1000 to a Samsung 85". Great picture.

Broken after 4 months. The housing for the circuit board is pretty flimsy and unintentionally opens from normal usage (pull in, pull out). Might have attributed to the breakage.
