Is this good for powdered sugar?

This is GREAT for powdered sugar. In fact it works better for powdered sugar than for popcorn salt.

Can you close the top when not in use?

The shaker holes do not close. They stay open like a salt shaker.

Can anyone tell me the diameter of this shaker? I need it to be 4" and from the description I can't tell for sure. Thanks.

Well, there seems to be a difference of opinion--the circular part of my shaker is 2 3/4in diameter across the lid and 2 5/8 in across the bottom. Including the handle, then, it is 4 in. Height is 3 3/4in.

Are the holes ok for a bbq spice rub? or are they too small?

The hole diameter is about 1/16". Then you can compare with your BBQ spice rub size.Thanks.
