The old tool compound was harder and heavier. It had a crumbly feel to it even though it only crumbled when my puppy ate it. This one is lighter but still stout. I like the horse hair much better than nylon. Horse hair has a natural quality to not hold static and it releases dirt better meaning the surfaces are not abraded by dust particles as much. Kirby and filter queen make the best tools I have used. Too bad filter queen has a proprietary coupling. They are very professional tools. This brush is also professional and has the standard 1 1/4 inch fitting. To tell you the truth I never thought I would write a review on a vacuum cleaner tool, I am still not sure why I did except that this one is particularly nice.

This is a real horse hair bristle dusting tool. In my house these get used a lot; our original brush that came with our 25+ year old Kirby finally bit the dust (ugh, bad pun, couldn't help it). I wanted original quality Kirby and I got it with this brush. Yes, you will pay more for it because it's made from horse hair and will function well for a *long* time. If this thing lasts half as long as our original I'll be money ahead over buying the cheap look-a-likes. BTW, I bought two of these brushes; one for our Kirby and one for our NuTone whole house vacuum. The dust brush that came with the NuTone vac system was a junky nylon bristle affair ...so we always "stole" the Kirby brush to use with the whole house system. No more; each has it's own. These are also excellent brushes to use for shop vacs; I use one on my shop vac for dusting off woodworking projects and cleaning my shop tools. Most shop vacs come with cheesy, nylon bristle brushes that soon deform with the bristles all bending inward. Don't let the "Genuine Kirby" fool you; these brushes will fit *any* vacuum system using 1 1/4" wands and hoses ...which is just about any household vacuum out there ...and shop vacs with the 1 1/4" hose and wands. These brushes work with a lot more vacuum systems than just your trusty Kirby.

Bought this as a replacement for my original Kirby vacum brush. It is made very very close to the original and does a wonderful job and is built durable, easy to use, and easy cleaning.

I use these for cleaning electronics because they are soft natural bristle that generates very little static electric charge, while still cleaning very well. The coupling is a flexible plastic that fits other standard-ish vacuum hoses, not just Kirbys.
