Raw and rewarding
Such a sweet story of pain, loss and overcoming life’s worst moments. The writing was wonderful and I was engaged the entire story!

Unique and moving - plus audiobook thoughts
When Ashes Fall is a dazzling romance featuring a unique love triangle. I have no idea why, but I’m one of those masochistic readers that allows my heart to torn be apart by love triangles time and again. While I saw the writing on the wall within the first few chapters, I appreciated the creativity of the plot and my attention was captured throughout.I can see why Alix falls for Dylan and Smith so easily. Dylan is bold in his pursuit of Alix, and Smith wins her over with his quiet kindness. The deep love she shares with each man is unmistakable. I must say she is one lucky lady to be the object of such intense devotion. Marni Mann does a superb job conveying Alix’s heart wrenching vulnerability as well as her strength. The storyline is strong and moving, but there are a couple stylistic issues that prevented me from rating this book higher. The chapters are very short and because the timeline and character perspectives bounce around continually, it sometimes creates a disjointed effect. Then there is the fact that in virtually every scene Alix compares the physical and emotional differences between Dylan and Smith. I understand the reasoning, but it seems like overkill. I think it would have been more effective to simply allow Smith and Dylan’s actions – and their affect on Alix – to showcase the distinctions in their personalities instead of repeatedly spelling it out for the reader. All three narrators of the audiobook are very talented and turn in compelling performances. However, in his portrayal of Dylan, Aiden Snow lays on a very thick Boston accent – which, okay, he’s from Boston – but his lax pronunciation (for example, chopping off the “g” in words that end in “-ing”—somethin’, nothin’, f*ckin’) does not give the impression that he is a well-educated, successful lawyer. Know what I’m sayin’? I checked, and that’s not how the dialog is written in the book, so it’s a character choice that just didn’t work for me. For that reason, I may have enjoyed reading the book more than listening to it.This beautiful story wrung every ounce of emotion out of me. It’s definitely the strongest and most complex work by Marni Mann that I’ve read to date.

My favourite Marni Mann read!!
When Ashes Fall by Marni Mann5 stars!!!“When ashes fall… That was the end.”I first read this book about four months ago and having now read it again those first impressions, emotions, thoughts, and feelings just came flooding back…tenfold. I have been a huge fan of Marni Mann from more or less the beginning of her career when I stumbled across her book on Amazon, and I haven’t looked back since. Having read every book she has published I have to say that this is my new favourite book of hers, the raw, intense emotions and honesty that she has conveyed through her words will tug at every heartstring, will bring lumps to your throat and cause plentiful tears. But, despite the emotional wringer that this book puts you through, you cannot help but be affected, impacted and emotionally stirred by the profound story that this author delivers. You can tell that this book was written from the heart, you feel and experience EVERYTHING. Love is such a powerful emotion, one that you are lucky to experience once in a lifetime, some maybe twice, none are ever the same, but each leaves their mark. This is not a cheating book, far from it, but read this as the author intended, blind. Let her take you on this ride, it is one that you will never, ever forget.“You’re asking to see my storm.”We all want sunny days, the days where the sun on your face warms your soul and your heart, however, there are always storms too, and it is on those days that you keep your nearest and dearest with you. Life is full of moments, to learn by, to cherish, to love, they may be insignificant, they may be monumental, but they make up your map, your map is your own, and you never know when life is going to make you change direction. This is all about those directions, those left, and rights, some you anticipate and others you don’t, but they are there for a reason. It is how you cope and deal with them that determines your end destination.“No, I don’t want to run… Unless it’s towards you, and then my answer is yes.”Marni Mann delivers an extremely poignant, heartfelt, heart-destroying, heart-warming, raw, honest, extremely moving love story that will have you captivated from start to finish. The story grabs you from the very beginning and doesn’t let you go even after the very last words. This is a book that I will be thinking about for a very long time and one that I will definitely be re-reading. This is one of those stories that makes you think long and hard, both at what you have just read and about the characters. The journey that Alix, Dylan, and Smith embark on will have your heart in your mouth one minute, your heart fit to burst the next, tears aplenty and the cheesiest grins. This was a rollercoaster, and as your brain frantically tries to read between the lines, you can only sit back and admire how well the author has layered this story. This book was like an onion, every chapter was a layer and as each layer was devoured the possibilities got smaller and smaller. The author delivers the crux of this story with brutal honesty, and I dare anyone not to bawl their eyes out. Intense, yet beautiful for its innocence, no unnecessary drama, no angst for angst sake, just one incredibly unforgettable story.“Alix and I weren’t perfect. We had cracks. And, as the months passed, I learned some deepened while others got filled in. I also learned that wasn’t the last night I’d sleep alone.”Every character had their purpose, nothing superfluous, nothing artificial. Every character well defined and the character connection was on point. You will take these characters into your heart and soul as love takes centre stage. Alix is cut open for the world to see and her love, emotions, and pain were agonizingly honest. It is this honesty that embraces Alix into your heart and soul as she undertakes the hardest journey of her life. We all need a best friend like Rose, Rose was Alix’s rock, she centered Alix, was her confidante and always had her back. She had been through the rough and the smooth, and she always had Alix’s best interests at heart. Both the men in this book were extremely lovable, total opposites and yet congruous in their love for Alix. I will reiterate that there is NO cheating in this book, just two loves in one lifetime. I cannot say any more, I want to keep this review spoiler free, but all I will say is read this book. You won’t regret it, and you definitely won’t forget it. Marni Mann, take a bow. I sincerely hope that this book gets the recognition it deserves. You deserve it, these characters deserve it, and the blood, sweat, and tears you poured into it deserve it. This will definitely be one of my top reads of the year.“I wish I knew now what I hadn’t known then.”

Alix and Smith … and Dylan
A love triangle like you’ve never read before. Such an amazing story that while was confusing at first, it quickly became apparent how trauma can severely affect our psyche. Poignant and beautifully written. The intimate moments were appropriately steamy and fit well with the overall story. How amazing it is to find not one but two loves in your lifetime.

4,5 stars! A great read!
It was my first read from this author and I gotta say that it took me a while to get into the story but the story was leaving me guessing all the time and I couldn't figure things out. I was so intrigued but it just kept me guessing until the end and yes it really was a heartbreaking emotional story that just takes you by storm! Definitely won't be my last read from this author, also 'cuz I am loving her writing.Alix has returned to her new job and is trying to make it day by day. With her best friend in tow, she tries to get back on track. When she first meets Smith, there's been an incident that will turn their lives upside down but when they meet one evening, there seems to be a connection between them that is drawing them together. But both have a past that they are still trying to cope with and it takes time for them to learn how to deal with their own storm. Even though they grow closer the more they get to know each other, it's hard for Alix to let her walls down, not knowing if Smith is too good to be true but there's just something there that both want to explore. But will it be enough to deal with the past?... To move on from is holding her back?...

Will never forget this book!
Oh my goodness, I have literally just stopped crying for long enough to write this review.WOW this book will consume you, you will not want to put it down, and when you have to ,you will be thinking about it. Seriously this book broke my heart a little, and I will never forget this story.I came across the cover REVEAL for book 2 of this series on one of my favourite authors stories, anyway she said book one was probably her favourite book and I can see why. Amazing!!!This storyline was just amazing, I absolutely adored all of the characters in it. I loved the relationship that both Dylan and Alix shared, it was beautiful, but also real, they didn't have a perfect relationship and honestly who does? What they did have was love, loyalty, fun, respect, hope and a lot of determination to enjoy their lives together.I love how this book played out, the whole thing just worked and was written beautifully.I could go on and on about what happened but I really don't want to spoil it, so will let you read it and find out for yourself.Everyone should read this book and i reccomend you bring hankies along as you will need them. I can not remember the last book that made me cry so hard ever! You will cry ugly tears and lots of them. The letter from the author had me sobbing too, I love that you took something so devastating in your life and made something beautiful from it. My papa was my best friend, his passing 12 years ago killed me, I literally had a break down for a few months and it's only now I can listen to his music without crying. So yes, this brought me to tears as it made me remember that utter devastation of loosing him.Thank you so much for this book, I am really looking forward to next book in this series.
