Blue Dye Nice And Dark. Sharp All along The Edges Including The Points . Not The Norm For Case .
The short review :Out of nearly six hundred knives in my collection , all of them users that I carry at one time or another , some of them ~ $600 each , the Case brand Trapper fits my hand the best and every time I pick one up and use it it is like coming home . Not super steel in the blade but one of the very best , most practical , knife styles ever made !Buy it !The long review with all the whys and wherefores :Just when I have finally , after years of optimism , resigned myself to a level of attention to detail by Case that is less than it could be . . .This latest Case Trapper is freekin' perfect !The blue dye in the jigged bone scales is just exactly what I want ! Nice and dark with just the right amount of black / super dark blue in the middle and only the most subtle hints at the edges showing the original white bone . (I have another exact same model and color that I bought seven years ago that is just too lightly dyed with too much white bone ).And the Blades ! Not in over a decade have I received a Case Trapper with blades sharpened this well . Even sharpness all along the edges ; no bur rolling or dings . . . and ! And ! . . . the points of the blades are sharp (not dull and rounded over as was the old de rigueur ).Edge sharpness from the factory has never been a big deal to me ; I put my own more extreme edge on any knife I buy in the first days of ownership anyway but it is knice to see Case getting on top of this chronic problem , for the general public . Learn to sharpen in any case is my advice .The grinding / polishing of the scales and bolsters and coloring are nicely even and symmetrical ! ! !I've died and gone to heaven here !You may think me over effusive but you haven't seen the horrors that I have seen .I am ecstatically happy with my most recent Case purchase ! ! !May yours be as well done !PS : that is about fifteen years of consistent, yearly , Case knife purchasing , using and collecting . Over a hundred and some in the collection . Over thirty of this Case Trapper frame style alone .

Had to fix some issues, but gorgeous covers
So conflicted.. This is such a ridiculously beautiful knife. The covers on mine, I would say, are above average so I definitely got lucky. But at the same time, there is some serious gapping going on. I don't generally complain about gaps; all the knives in my collection are users. But this was a lot. There was also a lot of left/right blade play. It would have gone back except I figured I would not get as nice of covers. So I clamped the head bolster up, which closed up the gapping a enough to make it tolerable and fixed the blade wobble. This, of course, meant sanding down the pin, which you can see in the pic. A visible pin doesn't bother me too much on Case knives because ALL of them will show the pin after a few months no matter what. Of course, there was a burr to remove, what else is new with Case. So I would give it a three for the problems I had to fix, but I got really lucky with the covers, so I give it 4 stars.
