Summary: I use Damoil Dormant and Summer Spray Oil on fruit trees like Pears, Figs, and Peaches. The product is supposed to help prevent fungal growth and provide some insect repellant properties due to the Neem Oil in the product. It is also supposed to prevent bark splitting in the winter. I find that this product does help against fungal growth on the tree bark and winter bark splitting. It is less effective as an insecticide and isn't really effective against black leaf spot.Be careful not to apply this product at higher than the recommended application rates or you could have problems with leaf curl or sunburn. Also, do not apply this product during intense sunlight. Apply early in the morning or later in the evening when the sun is not intense. Optimally, I would apply it on cloudy days. The Neem oil in the product is a photosensitizer and can cause sensitive plant tissue to sunburn. I sprayed some on hostas and it caused the leaves to sunburn and die. The product label says NOT to spray on plants that are flowering. I can attest to that. I sprayed this product on bearded irises and daylilies that were in bloom. It did not harm the leaves but killed the blooms.Read the manufactures product literature, technical data sheets, and safety data sheets for proper application rates and personal protective equipment.
