The sponge cloths made of 70 % cellulose and 30 % cotton are all made in one of two factories; Wettex in Norrköping, Sweden or in Germany by a company called Kalle. This type of sponge cloth was invented and patented by the Swedish Engineer Curt Lindquist in 1949 and his formula is used in both factories. The Wettex rags, which is the original and is still being produced in Sweden have a striped pattern and the Kalle rags, produced in Germany, have diamond patterns. Both the Skoy cloth and this sponge cloth are made at Kalle in Germany in the same factory. Other than the printed pattern and packaging, they are made at the same plant, so one should not be much different than the other.

Where are these manufactured?

It says on back of package “Product of Germany.” Labeled: Environment Friendly—Vincotte Certified—Compostable 100% Natural—Machine washable 300 times. I never have machine washed. I find spraying with Shout gets out stubborn stains like blueberry and red sauce. One cloth lasts me a month and longer, used for washing dishes and general kitchen cleanup. I love it for kitchen appliances and countertops, wipes up without streaks.

Is it possible to purchase these without the plastic packaging?

They do NOT come in plastic packaging. From the actual packaging: "The packaging is a biopolymer made from corn starch which is certified compostable, leading to further reduction in waste, greenhouse gases and diversion from landfill".
