Brother recycles empty cartridges
Authentic toner is worth the money - prints neater, lasts longer than the knock-offs. But what really sold me was that Brother includes a return stamp so you can mail back the empty toner cartridge so it doesn't end up in landfill. (Not sure what they do with it - hopefully use the parts?)

Reset your current drum, then buy.
First off, I give this 5 stars because laserjets printers are just phenomenal. We've had our Brother HL-22700W for at least 8 years now and it's still going super strong. That being said...My old drum told me it was out of ink back in Dec. I literally needed to print about 5 more pages RIGHT THAT MOMENT for an event that was about to start. I found a way to reset my old one, hoping to squeak out just enough to finish my print job and ordered a new one. I've now printing at least another 200 pages and the ink is still going strong. This one I purchased has been sitting on my desk since the first week of December. On the upside, these things last FOREVER. I only have to replace the drum every few years, if even.On the downside, they cost quite a bit, but that's evened out by the fact that they last, again, FOREVER.On the offside: Seriously? It told me I was out of ink and my printer doesn't have an 'ignore and keep printing' button like (some? all?) inkjet's do. It WOULD NOT print anymore until I fiddled with it and tricked its brain by resetting it. I have since gotten another 200+ sheets out of it. That is a LOT of ink I would have thrown away, and HAVE thrown away in the past! Do yourself a favor: do a search on how to reset your drum. I'm not saying don't buy a new one, but I am saying you may have some time yet before you really need a new one. Your mileage may vary depending on how much you print.

Works with Brother HL-2280DW
I used this to replace the original 10 year old drum unit in my HL-2280DW printer. It's a genuine Brother drum unit, was easy to replace, and worked perfectly in my printer. Make sure to follow the instructions included in the box to reset the drum unit counter on the printer. I purchased a "like new" unit from Amazon Warehouse, and other than the box being dinged up, it was in perfect condition and functions like new.

I was sold a used drum unit that was advertised as brand new.
The Brother Drum Unit, DR420 was advertised as brand-new Brother Genuine and came in a Brother DR420 box. However, instead of the drum being in a sealed pouch (as it should have been), the drum inside the box was in a black plastic bag, taped shut at the end. First tip off that I had been sold a used drum. When I installed the drum along with a brand new Brother 450 toner cartridge, I immediately started getting poor resolution copies on my Brother MFC-7240 printer. Solid shaded areas are splotchy, and printing on both left and right edges of the copy are faded. I got ripped off by this seller, MyOfficeInnovations.
