What to know before you buy this
They came out with an update for the app recently, so I figured I’d update my review.First of all, this is a nice product in that the unit itself is very cool, that little ball can move the sand with some impressive precision. However, it can be frustrating to get started because there are no instructions whatsoever except for their utopian —Pour in the sand, connect, enjoy—. Not even a QR code to make sure you go to the right app. **There is a different app for the 11” than for the other sizes.** I don’t know why they don’t tell you that. I found that out after hours of frustration from an outside source right before I was going to return it. I’ll tell you what they won’t, you want the white app for the 11”, not the purple one. (I can only say about App Store) There is a QR code on the box, but it doesn’t take you to where you download the right app, it takes you to their website where there is no direction on where to go for the app you want. They really need to improve on that. Before the recent update connectivity was an absolute nightmare. It was weeks with no connectivity at all! They did improve on that but since then, downloading new patterns is impossible, and playing a playlist is impossible. All I can do is select a pattern and it will play over and over until I decide to pick another pattern. Very disappointed with that.It has a timer, which is good, but it only controls the ball, which I just don’t get. Why wouldn’t it control the lights too? Why would you be able to have the ball start and stop with a timer, and make me have to log in every single time to toggle the lights?! The login process can take around 15-20 seconds, just so I can turn the lights on or off which takes .03 seconds. WHY???? I really hope they add a timer for the lights too.I’m happy with this product, just not with the connectivity issues I’ve had with the app, and still have. I hope they are working on that, and that they add a timer for the lights. The app has a LOT of room for improvement.Update 4/28/25:I figured out that you have to reset the unit after you upgrade, now it’s finally the product I bought. They even included the lights with the timer! :)Happy with my Drift, although it’s not perfect. (For example: Yesterday the ball just stopped moving, had to restart the playlist to get it moving)I do wish they had clearer instructions. After you’ve downloaded the correct app, it does tell you which app you should download- if that gives you an example. Other than that it’s so far so good. In good faith that it will stay that way, I’m giving 5 stars.Update 6/02/25:Still happy with my Drift although I’ve noticed 2 things that need to be improved. The first is another one of those things they don’t tell you; you can download as many patterns to a playlist as you want, but it’s only going to the 1st 20 of them. Don’t waste you time making a big list! The other thing is the timer, which I’m happy it has, but in just over a month the internal clock is already off by 3 minutes, and there is no way to sync the clock with your device or anything else. It says “Time Zone” and then shows the time that’s 2 minutes behind, and you can’t change it.Homedics, you really need to work on these things.

Wi-Fi Fail: A High-Tech Paperweight Disguised as a Sandscape
I had high hopes for this Homedics 11” Drift Sandscape as a Valentine’s Day gift for my wife, but unfortunately, it turned into a frustrating tech nightmare. This is the Wi-Fi version, and let me tell you—Wi-Fi is where things go horribly wrong. I also own the larger 21” Bluetooth model, which works great, so I assumed this one would be just as good. Spoiler alert: It’s not.No matter what I did, this thing refused to connect to Wi-Fi. Yes, I made sure it was on the 2.4 GHz band. Yes, I tried resetting it. No, it didn’t matter. The reset feature is basically a self-destruct button—once you attempt it, the unit bricks itself faster than an outdated smartphone update. It flashes red, then white, then…nothing. Extensive Google searches yielded nothing useful because, apparently, nobody knows how to troubleshoot this model—not even Homedics.Speaking of Homedics, I reached out to their support team. The representative was friendly but entirely unhelpful. Her brilliant solution? “Leave it turned on so we can connect to it remotely.” Uh…what? Lady, if I could get it to connect to Wi-Fi, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. And it’s not just me. A friend of mine bought two of these, assuming the first one was defective. Nope—same exact issue on both. At this point, I think the only people successfully using this product are the ones who haven’t taken it out of the box yet.Bottom line: If you’re looking for an overpriced paperweight, you’ve found it. Otherwise, save yourself the headache and get the larger Bluetooth version. This one went back to Amazon where it belongs.

Mesmerizing!
This is the greatest mesmerizing conversation piece. Everyone that comes into our home is fascinated by the precision movements that create so many patterns.

Very beautiful but..
Very beautiful but the app is horrible to use and the on off switch does not work. I exchange the power cable and does dis not work on replacement cable either. Now I have to unplug everytime I want to turn off.

Cool product ruined by unusable app
While the Drift device is neat, you can only connect to it via 2G wifi with the Drift App.The app is now unusable and forces closes immediately after logging in.Support is nonexistent. Haven't been able to control my Drift for 6 months now.

Pretty but all app is horrid.
Updating my last review. Still 3 due to coming in all scratched up and the app is terrible and constantly loses connection. However. I was able to get it to play through a playlist without my phone connected. Though I would say it's a 3.8. very pretty and calming.

Pitiful, complete product delivery and instructions!
Where do I even begin?Let's see, package arrives in a unmarked cardboard box, no instructions, no links to instuctions,QR codes, nothing.Next, items included with this; sand comb, sand, metal ball, none of which were in my package..,.Three strikes you're out.....
