Perfectly straight, true, and rigid - ideal for machine setup
With the cornucopia of measuring instruments I have in my workshop, I can't fathom why it took me so long to buy a simple, rigid, 6" ruler. It's as precise as I can measure, and sufficiently rigid so it doesn't flop around or deflect under a little pressure. The markings are easy to read, and look like they'll last forever. The only downside I've found is that the 1/10 and 1/100 scales aren't as useful in my woodworking as I thought they might be (kind of obvious in retrospect...). I might have been better off with the 4R version, but that's on me.This is my first tool from PEC, but I'm sure it won't be the last.

Good view, fantastic value.
I'm happy with mine so far. Measuring it with my B&S dial caliper it's only two thousandths longer than six inches, which is far better than the accuracy my eyes will resolve on its scale. I can't attest to its finish's long-term durability as I've only been using it for about a month, but it's not visibly deteriorated, so I'm not worried. One minor downside of the white markings is that, because they're deeply etched (a good thing!), they can fill up on top of the white paint with dark gunk that eliminates the contrast. Wipe the gunk out across the rule, in the same direction as the graduation lines, and you're good again. Don't loan it to someone who might lay it across wet Dykem, or the white paint could be permanently stained. Mine has pink markings on one side for that reason, and alcohol hasn't restored them to white. It's still easy to read, so that's not a point against it. I like this tool a lot, and even with my 34-year-old astigmatic eyes I can make out the hundredths scale, though it's still not fun.

White on black makes it easy to read
The white on black makes this ruler easy to read. I own several good steel rules. I like this one because it reads true measurement from the very end. Many start the measurement some distance from the end and while they may be very accurate you can't measure into a recess for example. I have another narrow (0.5") ruler like this but it's the usual stainless steel ruler without the contrast of this one. I like the fact that one side is in tenths and hundredths. The other side is 1/32 and 1/64. The decimal fractions make it easier to divide the distance. In fact I may buy the metric version as well for that reason. This rule does not have a metric scale on it. This scale is US made and is well made.

Great rule, easy to read
This is a nice rule. Handy size, and really easy to read. I've had the classic polished stainless steal ones, which are much harder to see. One benefit of the stainless steel ones are that they don't seem to scratch up as easily as this dark colored one does. So I guess over time, this dark one might end up being as hard to read as the unfinished stainless ones are when they are new. We'll see. Rated it 4 stars, only because it seems to scratch up a bit. Otherwise very nice.

Using for photography. Works great!
I bought this 6" ruler and the 12" ruler primarily to photo document damage to parts and assemblies. Works excellent for this and as a ruler for layout measuring in the shop. The white numbers on the black chrome shows up excellent in photos even when using the flash. Used them the same day I received them to document a severely damaged part that had no visual reference for the size of the damage. The ruler sitting with the damaged part gave the engineers the exact size of the damage without having to travel to the location or have the part shipped to them for repair determination. My boss is pleased with the feedback he received about the photos. I'm pleased with the results. ;-)Another nice feature about this ruler is it is thin so marking scribed lines is easier and it bends to fit curved items.I recommend the ruler for shop use and for any use where a ruler is needed for photo use. Would and probably will buy again. One last thing, wipe it down with a light coat of oil when you receive it to bring out the black better. Now go buy one! Made in the USA!

As a machinist I will be buying more of these in the future!!
This ruler, aka as a scale to machinists, is the easiest to read against any dark object. I really love the white numbers on the black backing as opposed to the standard black numbers on the silver backing seen on more common rulers. I have bought 2 of these already because they are the best option in my opinion for both work and around the house. Yes I will be buying more of these in the future when I lose the ones I already purchased.

Not .5" wide as per spec.
I am 70 yrs old, and have a 6" scale in my pocket for over half my life. I use them daily. I bought this 3 days ago for it's black easier to read detail. As soon as I opened the package I knew it wasn't right. I can live with. 002" longer, but it's .525" wide.

Good 6" scale
The product came with a little excess white paint that initially smeared. I was worried that it would stay and make the 64ths hard to read, but after a little use it wore away. Since then I prefer it to my standard steel with black graduations. The high contrast makes it easier to read, overall 5 stars.
