800 grit
I've only sharpened about 10 knives but just wanted to leave a review that what I received was indeed the NK-2008 800 grit Naniwa. The packaging and the side of the stone both say 800. I'm still new to sharpening on these synthetic ceramic Japanese whetstones but I did end up with a nice edge on kitchen knives and folders around 58 rockwell. The stone is perfectly flat and was well packed in bubble wrap inside of it's holder. I like that this is a splash-and-go type waterstone. I didn't soak it but just used a spray bottle to keep the top wet as I sharpened. The case can function as stone holder and works well but I did end up buying a dedicated stone holder to deal with the odd handles on a couple of our kitchen knives. The case also has holes in the bottom to help with drying out the stone. The manufacturer recommends against any kind of accelerated drying and I have not yet experienced any cracking. As mentioned in many forums, this stone feels finer that 800 grit and a grit chart I found ranks it closer to 1200 JIS. I started with a 220 Shapton and progressed to this stone and it worked well enough. I may get something in the 500 - 600 JIS range to start with now that my knives are in better shape. Recommended.

Good razor stone, very high polish
I bought this for honing razors and it does a great job. It does load up a bit, so keep it as wet as possible but don't soak. Pretty dense, hard wearing stone. Keep in mind it is only 10mm. If your doing knives, you may want the 20mm. Very good stone, love the feel.
